Wasn't sure where to put this.. Anyways I'm in the market for my first big set of cine lenses. Trying to make a smart and informed purchase. I plan to rent out at first to help offset cost, so I'm hovering towards superspeeds as they seem to be the most rented, default choice. Most modern lenses worth buying are out of price range except Lumatech Illuminas - I've read pretty much nothing but good things and I'm wondering why they aren't more popular?

Anyways, this isn't a "which lens should I buy" thread. I'm wondering specifically about Speed Pancros. I've read Cooke History and have a general idea about them, but I'm wondering why some sets go for $21k and some go for $60k+ (in both instances, they are ver II or III). Is it mainly to do with whether or not they're rehoused?

I suppose I would like to get better at being able to judge the value of lenses. Zeiss' is pretty straightforward, lots of great info out there. But anything I find on SP's is convoluted info that doesn't have a lot of detail.

Can anyone help?
