I have been assembling a set of Cooke Speed Panchros with the intention of having them rehoused, and would like opinions from others.

My current thought was to go with Van Diemen which is more money, but high quality work along with what I feel will be a better investment in the long run. Any better options which I am missing? I know P+S Technic offers the service, but the set of their rehoused ZF lenses I played with seemed very stiff.

Thanks!

Dave

how much does Van Diemen charge per lens? i had got an email a few weeks back about visual products doing a cine mod to old cookes, the thing i liked about it was the focus gear was an extended one that brought it away fro the mount a bit, but i think it was 1500 a lens :(

am i reading that right? its only a 300 dollar difference if you supply the lens?

You might want to get an actual quote from them. On the Leica list, the cost difference if supplying your own lens is on par with what I paid for my lenses. Also, I have just put a deposit down to have my Leicas done and they quoted me less than what is on their site. I'm looking forward to seeing their work.

I've seen a set of Panchros that Visual Products Cine Mod'd. I would definitely prefer a rehousing.

True Lens Service in the UK is rehousing Cooke Speed Panchros - http://bit.ly/YA63uH

Dave Blackham has been talking to them and probably has more info on this, so maybe he will chime in...

True Lens's housing looks real nice! i wonder how much that costs.

Has TLS even gotten past the 18mm prototype yet? Last I heard it was just the 18mm.

Also unless I am mistaken the Van Diemen's use 80mm fronts which match most of my other older lens sets, where the TLS conversion uses a 110mm front diameter which match more of the newer lens set out now, which I don't own. Not a huge issue to change out the rear of the matte box though.

Can't vouch for this company but maybe someone has used them. Pictures of conversions look good!

They have been around for some time, pretty sure Stonecine a seller on Ebay has been getting Contax zelss lenses converted for some time. You will notice they have made lenses for Aadman animation, who always buy the best.......

I have a set of Cooke Panchro's going into TrueLens next week. They have an 18mm and 25mm prototype complete and are close to having the rest complete.

I'd be more than happy to post my findings on Monday for all to read. I'll try and post pics and videos of the lenses they have available for me to look at. I'll try and post before and after pics for comparisions. I'll also post prices for the conversions. I have a guide price from them but I'd prefer to post once I have a more concrete information next week and have checked it's ok to post.

Cheers

TLS do great work, sure you will be very happy.

Just saw TLS rehousing of Cooke Panchro at BVE - 18mm, 25mm and a 50mm without engraving- they are seriously good. I wish I had bought a set of Panchro's all those years ago!! TLS will have a stall at NAB.
