Any idea when this set of lenses will be released and at what price?

Suggestions / comments from fellow red users about this cooke red set lenses.

I think they are about US$90,000. Better be pretty good for that much dough!

They're released. You have to custom order and purchase before they make them and ship them though. They are slightly more than 90K though. And they're Cookes, they're great. You can already purchase the same lenses right now - the only difference between the RED series is they have red ink versus yellow.

I have all those lenses (yellow version; I work in other formats and it's too gimmicky for me) plus the 65mm, which is missing from this set.
The 15-40 is simply amazing, and replaces 8 primes in the range, and is T.2 like the primes. I cannot see a difference between it and the primes, even on the IMAX filmout job I did. My only complaint is that there is a slight portholing at the long end of the zoom, not measurable or visible except when used with the Red or one of the 35mm adapters. I suspect it's the old divergence-of-light-on-the-sensor issue. It's pretty subtle and forgivable though.
I wish they made a companion for it, like a 35-75 or something. Also T.2
Les, are you listening? ;)
Cheers,
Harry

Do you know if the 15-40 is sold separatly and how much it would cost?
How about the quality in comparison with the Red zoom 18-50?

Thanks

Patrick

Yes, you can buy the 15-40 Cooke separately for $48,100.00 (US) from ZGC.

Why not buy two? ;)

Hi Patrick,

The 15-40 T2 is sold seperately, it's more than a stop faster, heavier, beautiful mechanics & cuts perfectly with the S4's. Don't remember the price but it's many times the cost of the 18-80 from RED.

a fortune.. a steal.. but the buyer is the victim.. ehehehehehe

It's a fair price. It replaces 8 primes in the set, each averaging $18,000. So for $45,000 (the price I bought mine at before the dollar REALLY tanked) you get $150,000 worth of glass. I rent it for $500 (rental houses tell me I should be charging $550) so it will be paid off in less than 100 days. And I'll likely use it for the next 20 years and sell it for something close to what I paid for it.
Shawn, just FYI, I believe that if you get them with yellow engraving you merely have to put a deposit on them. If you chose not to take delivery, there are many people who would take an "orphaned" lens or two. Check with Les on this.
Cheers,
Harry

okay.. i forgot to stand corrected.. the renter is the victim.. ehehehehehe there's always a victim anyway.. :ninja:
