  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Cooke panchro

H chris. Anyway you can take some pictures of the actual lenses? I ordered a set, but I am looking for shots of the lenses themselves to get a context of size and scale? I am using red pro primes now and they are huge! Shots with them also mounted n the Epic would be awesome! Thanks for any help. I am scouring for image samples and pics of the lenses.

Here you go...

I just finished my first Red Epic and Panchro/i shoot. I can't post stills until I get permission from the director and etc, but it was quite a great experience. The Epic sure has a great image. The cooke lenses make getting that lovely image consistent and easier. Besides the inherent Cooke look, which we all like, their expanded focus scales and consistent color/contrast match criteria, make focus pulling and coloring easier and faster, as on any camera. The lens i/data is also wonderful. The Epic constantly feeds my T/stop in the eye piece. We didn't play much with the i/technology and focus, but i've done so on the RedMX.

The Epic really did impress me.

The only thing Red needs to work on is the focal length. The Epic kept misreading the focal length of the lenses. Surely a software issue on their end, considering cooke invented the i/technology platform, so I doubt the lens was shipped to me with incorrect i/data.

I'll post some images from our Red Epic shoot soon. Until then, there is the Epic and a Panchro/i in action on set!

Same problem here with the i technology focal length issue. Do all of your lenses read as 48mm on your Epic?

Yes. I believe that was it. I just remember it was wrong.

yes there is some problem with the focal lengths reading incorrectly

I like "Angel in a thimble". :)

Yup all my lenses are shown as 48mm on the LCD. Notice how instead of getting a focus distance (like the R1 does) you get a depth of field readout? It changes with your aperture too ( as it should) but reads in Metric. Looks like Red has lots of plans for iData in the future.

Considering Cooke invented the i/technology format, do you think any lenses are working? I'd assume if the Cooke aren't reading right, RPP's, new Angies and others aren't either. I hope that's a simple firmware fix. I like showing off my Cooke i/technology on set. The R1mx was impressive when it gave exact focus measurements. Very cool stuff, even if your post pipeline doesn't need the info.
