This short video was filmed in the middle of 2016 in Hamburg (Germany).
You can see specific 'Cooke Look'. Personally I love this look and it's far away different to ex Zeiss look.
Cooke is more organic, warm and soft focus fall is just magical but I wish to hear from you REDUSERS a bit of criticism about this video.

Camera: Canon EOS C300 Cinema
Lenses: Cooke mini s4/i 25mm/65mm
Grading: DaVinci Resolve 12.5

I use to like cooke, until I actually shot with primo's then leica summilux, now there is no going back.. i personally own a set of leica R's which give me the closest look to Primos, without being a homeless guy with a set of summilux's

I also noticed, first thing, that the grading was too obvious - too much saturation in the reds, to start with. Never mind, I thought it was an interesting video. Back in the day you'd probably do this sort of thing with a Super 8 camera. ;-) I did a bit of that, but I wish I had done more. It would have been great to have documented the early to mid 1990s.

I think the image quality is great but I am not a lens conoisseur, and so as long as the lens does not get in the way of the image, it gets a pass. I did notice how steady the image was as you racked focus (at the 0:27 mark). Rock solid, no breathing. I'd be just as happy with a Cine Alta or a RPP set.

i really don't like the grading. the saturation in the reds and also sometimes in the blues was a pain in my eyes. it kind of gave me the feeling that someone just applied a LUT and didn't give more thoughts to it.

Great thinking!

Yes if anyone has good reasons for why people should dump their Cooke S4i minis in the marketplace
and get some new Leica lenses or something then post them here!

I can't think of too many off the top of my head but I have to say, those Cooke S4i mini's, they aren't really all that fast are they?
Much faster high quality lenses out there even from Cooke so it's kind of costing you money all the time having those slow Cooke lenses in your inventory.

Also I have this suspicion that those old Cooke Speed Panchros can't resolve 8k and anyway Cooke makes them with
proper housings now.

The lenses look great...

Color correction... not so much for my eyes.

Best recommend I could give you:

Download free Davinci Resolve..

Open a famous movie still or clip that you like the look of the day exterior shots.

Look at the waveform monitor levels.

Open your ungraded footage, try to get the levels in the same "zones"

Will watch ungraded clip now too.

... ok you have some good Latitude in your ungraded clip. It appears to be canon Log.

Correct Dan Kanes, C-log from Canon EOS C300 ;)

BTW. I have DaVinci Resolve, graded version of this clip was graded on DaVinci indeed.
I'm steadicam operator and photographer so most of the time my role is to deliver untouched footage (and dailies) to 3rd party company for further editing/grading.
Color grading is something new for me actually but I'm trying to push myself even harder to learn proper techniques in grading that's why I asked for criticism.

and ... yes, Cooke leaving EU :(
