Hi all. . .

I have to convert a short six minute film file from an AppleTV 720p version to a ProRes 422 29.97 1080 version for broadcast interview.

I cannot find any way to do that in Premiere Pro CS5.5. Is there such a way? I don't see it.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks much.

Stephen

By apple tv version I am assuming H264 MP4?

Skip PPro
Drop the file right into Media Encoder and select the appropriate preset....you will probably have to modify one as I dont know if 1080p 29.97 is a preset

I hope you are on apple, cause writing prores on windows is tricky, and cant be done in the adobe suite

Yes, I'm on an Apple. And, yes, it is an H264 MP4.

Not sure I have Media Encoder. I guess I'll find out. Where does one get it if I don't already have it?

Last question. What would be the best way to go from PP with 4K files to the same format (1080 ProRes 422 29.97)?

Thanks so much!

Stephen

I only have the suite...but I think media encoder would even come with standalone.

Even if you dont, once you have the files in a bin, just select the file and go to 'file, export' then you should see a dialogue box....export means export through PPRO....queue means go through Media encoder

Skipping PPro is just faster if it's straight up file conversion...just open Media encoder and drop in the file

As to the other question, is this a 4k timeline in PPro...just 4k files...or 4k files in a 1080p timeline

Okay, I've got Media Encoder open and it looks just like the choices for PP. I don't see anything for ProRes at all. Any chance you could call me and walk me through this? My number is 913-239-0367. Super thanks, Mike.

Oh, and as to the second question, it's a 4K timeline in PPro reading .R3D files.

Sorry stephan in meetings today...plus I am on windows...so no prores for me.....and I'm suprised there is no ProRes options for your export.

Some mac users could chime in but I would imagine, select quicktime....then if there is no prores presets under quicktime go into the video codec, and selet prores, pick your flavour....and set your size and framerate

If you dont have prores options under the quicktime video setting, then there is something weird going on....alot of times if you are running a trial, adobe doesn't give you the third party codecs.

If this is not working for you, quicktime pro should have conversion to prores from h264

good luck

Use MPEG STREAMCLIP.

It's an amazing piece of software. One of the best FREE pieces of software I've ever used. I was introduced to it by some of my favorite DIT and POST friends. It's used all over the place. Give it a shoot. It may do your conversion pretty well.

either you got media encoder along with premiere or, if not, I second nick's idea. mpeg streamclip kicks ass!
