Helo,

I do all the .R3D color correction in After Effects and when I finish the color correction I use Adobe media encoder to compress the .R3d files to .MP4. The files compression from .R3D to .MP4 takes too long. It takes about 45 minutes to compress a 20 second clip to .MP4. Most of the times it will take like 16 hours to export 50 clips to .MP4.

I was thinking about getting the Sonnet Technologies Echo Express SE II and the EVGA GEFORCE GTX 780 3GB.

Do you think the card and the Echo Express SE II would make my exporting faster?
Would the Red card be a better option? Does the Red card works with after effects and FCPx?

Can you recommend something better without braking the bank!

Here is my setup.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014)
2.8 GHz Intel Core i7

16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB
All SSD.

Thanks for the help.

I travel with my sh*tty 13" macbook pro retina (mid2014) and tote around my RRx in a thunderbolt II box and I can't live without it.

I don't have exact numbers for you, but it's pretty much faster than realtime rendering for basic editing/color work in FcpX.

I chose this RRx macbook pro setup over getting a MacPro trashcan so I could edit 6k raw no matter where I am physically. Plus, you can probably expect major MacPro trashcan updates this June at Apple's WDDC conference.

Thanks for your replay Mat!

Are you talking about the new RRx?

What case are you using?

Thanks!

Keep in mind that external GPU is NOT supported under OSX. AFAIK, AE is a CPU based application, even when going through AME you won't realize the benefits of additional GPU power. You should use an accelerated GPU or RRX based software to get reasonable render times.
