Hello. My question is sort of related to workflow, so I'm posting here. Hopefully someone can help.
I'm in the middle of color grading a short film, and we have a problem. I've been using a Lustre Master Station 2012, but the machine crashed and apparently won't be back up in time for us to finish the film. I'm done with the grade, so all I need to do is the final render. Is it possible to somehow convert the project file to be used in another system, such as DaVinci or Apple Color? I have all the project files and all the original media backed up.

That's what I figured. Does anyone know of a place in the Los Angeles area with a Lustre suite I can reserve on short notice? I literally need only a half hour for the render and I'm done. I called a few places, but was surprised to hear that they don't have Lustre, and they told me everyone uses Pablo.

Half hour render can easily turn into a couple of hours, considering needed time for running antivirus scan on your drive, copying the material, prep time, reassemble your project, render to DPX (Lustre only renders to non container formats, like DPX or TIFF), second render to Prores (if needed), copying the file back to your drive.
Majority of high end places (most are, that use Lustre software) wouldn't even bother with half hour jobs, that would take them two hours to finish.
And, no, everyone doesn't use Pablo. It's just wrong information. Technicolor, Laser Pacific, EFilm are just a few that come to mind, that use Lustre.

Elliot, I wouldn't sweat it much, almost every post house with a LUSTRE will have some kind of support contract with Discreet/Autodesk. Therefore you should be up and running fairly quickly, that is IF the post house that you are working with has a legit copy of LUSTER. I have heard of some post houses deploying pirated copies in suites, hope that isn't your case because you would be SOL.

Talk to Bob Brian at Headquarters Post in Burbank: (818) 524-2181. Technicolor also has a couple of Lustres at Sunset & Gower: (323) 817-6600.

It's not possible to take grades on one color-corrector and move them to another, not if you expect all the color decisions, power windows, keys, and so on to go with it.

Both Encore in Hollywood and Level 3 Post in Burbank have Lustre systems. Level 3 also has a system that's basically used only for rendering, so they'd probably let you use that for less than their normal room rate (which includes a colorist).

Anyone who said the "everyone uses Pablo" either works at Fotokem or Lightiron, because among the major post suppliers, they're the only 2 I can think of that do. Almost "everyone else" uses a combination of DaVinci 2K and Resolve, Baselight, and Lustre.

Disclaimer: I work at Level 3.
