Has anyone tested how long it takes to convert an r3d file to DVC Pro HD or other mainstream HD delivery format with RedCine? Just wondering what kind of times I'm looking at. I know it all depends on the computer you're running, but if you could let me know the conv. times and what your system specs are, I would be grateful.

thanks

You have 4GB of ram?

That's ten times real-time? 1 hour of footage equals ten hours of conversion time?

I have seen anywhere from 6-10x longer than real time depending on system and settings within RedCine. This was on a dual quad core HP8400 with 4GB RAM.

For what I've seen converting .R3D to 16bit .tiff's it takes about one minute for every second, slighlty faster. Thats running it through quad core intel mac, fully loaded

Is there aa reason you're not using the quicktime wrapper for cross conversion?

If on a Mac and using the QT reference either from camera or from RedAlert!, imports on a MacBook Pro 4GB RAM are abut 6x longer than real time for the _M ad 9x for the _H file. For offline, the _M is just fine. A minute of footage takes 6 minutes or 9 minutes to import.

Keep in mind that writing full blown tiffs requires a hefty RAID setup. You can't just say the conversion is slow, you have to time the different stages to figure out how much time each is taking.
