How is controlling the EPIC with the redMote only?

No side handle or LCD.

Can you control the EPIC with all the functions of the LCD touch?

How is wireless connection with the redMote?
How long does the battery last in the redMote and how long does it take to re-charge the redMote?

Works great. Important that you are able to monitor menus. You can navigate every single touchscreen menu item via up/down/left/right/enter.

Wireless connection a bit fiddly at first but once you understand the process seems solid. I haven't ventured far from the camera. My understanding is you need to be pretty much next to it for best results, though improvements are expected over time.

Haven't drained it yet but battery life seems okay. I think charging from the camera takes longer than USB, plus you can use it while powered via USB.

thanks Jim. What do you mean by monitor menus? Can you do this on the redMote's LCD screen?

I have read it takes 8 hours to charge the redMote on Camera and 4 hours to charge via USB and the redMote can run for 8 hours wirelessly before needing a charge.
Wonder how this translates to real world use?

No problem Rory.

Just mean that controlling exclusively from the RedMOTE can suggest someone wants to ONLY have it as a way to control the camera. Many people have asked this, hoping to avoid the expense of the LCD, Side Handle etc. Was just saying if this was the case, they would first need to enable the menus on the HDMI/HD SDI monitor or they wouldn't be able to see what they are controlling.

Those numbers look about right, though at the moment they may be a bit less than that. My feeling is that if you put the RedMOTE back in the cradle during lunch, breaks and major resets, it will probably get you through the day, and if it doesn't then have an iPhone charger nearby and replace the iPhone cable with USB and you can go all day and not be tethered to the camera.

There are so many ways to keep it going I don't think it will be a problem.

I like to use the 7" LCD with only a RedMote. It's a little bigger and all the menus fit nicely. Not bad to operate from either. I don't usually keep it off the camera unless I'm in a chase vehicle where I'm maximum 7-10ft away. At that distance it goes out often.

This must sound like the dumbest question, but how do I trigger PLAYBACK with the RedMote. I was fiddling with it yesterday and didn't see a button for it. Had to plug the LCD back in just to hit the play button.

It's doable on a little shoot, however I would not do it on a shoot with a client & crew. The redmode is great but does loose connection a little too much. Just having a touchscreen is a workable soloution if you dont need a viewfinder.

I am assuming that menu's can be seen in the EVF when operation the Redmote ?

Do I recall that the Redmote pro ? if that s what its called has a menu screen on it ?

You can get to playback through the SETTINGS menu. This means you can navigate to the SETTINGS menu and select the PLAYBACK button using the REDmote.

?

Yes they can on the bomb EVF, never tried an original. Menu's can also be seen out of the SDI / HDMI with 2.05, so no viwefinder needed in worst case!
