  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Control...

For the record, I don’t belief it’s the front of the Camera we’re looking at! I think we’re looking at the back of the New Epic X35/S35 Camera. What’s in the front of the Red Gunner is an I/O module to continue with all the Camera functions to the rear, there you can attach any Module as you wish. The numbers on top are of the same persuasion. There is a slide that runs between the shoulder pad and the rear module for adjustment. You can notice a button with a “V” like symbol on the right hand side of the “Camera Side” in whatever the I/O module is attached too, that can be a number of things. Whatever it is it’s not the Camera Module, that you can plainly see in the photo of the Camera module, it got a green led and an off on button.

Then look again ;) Jarred postet videos of the Epix X brain. Clearly the front we can see. The back looks different (more connection ports there).

P.S.: In the Gunner-picture you can clearly see the red-handle. The red-handle is always attached to the right side of the brain.

P.P.S.: Could you please go a bit wider on that pic, Jim? Think about global warning and how many people speculate here for hours and hours, pages and pages when in the end you can just show them. All that energy that could be saved :)

heh, heh... now there's a new argument... Save the planet, reduce speculation. more news :)

To me, the module on the Gunner we are speculating over seems more like something a module (brain or otherwise) would slip into...

Not sure if this has been already answered, but here's my guess:

Notice the two ports at the bottom of the front of the brain in the following image:

Notice the two cables attaching to those ports with the Red Digital Cinema Logo in between as seen in the following image:

So the brain sits on your shoulder with the gun in front (so far as we can see; it may extend into the back to house cables below the modules).

I'm just hoping there are controls and a boom on the front of that gun! Nice work Red Team!

As Chad noticed the brain probably sits on the shoulder when using the Red Gunner. When thinking about the position of the optical viewfinder in previous pictures one might think it'll be hard to use it while using the Red Gunner. My guess is that the two connectors in front may have something to do with attaching a viewfinder in the handle in front of the brain. Batteries, I think, would be too heavy to place in the front (if counterweights aren't placed in the back). The best way to optimize the use of the body is to place weight on top of the shoulder instead of adding weight where you actively need to uphold it. In this way you can shoot longer without getting tired.

There's of course the possibility of counterweights in the back, but the question is if it would make it too bulky. I've never used or even seen a Red One IRL but from the looks of it it's quite large and heavy. Maybe Red is trying to make the Epic model more versatile in this manner. Still they probably want to keep the solid feel and durability of metal instead of using plastics (many other manufacturers use plastics). By making the body smaller than the Red One's and reducing some of the weight they have made it more easy to handle, but I think that the weight still might be an issue. Therefore it's proabably why they've placed the main weight on the shoulders for those with the need of walking around with the camera. Since the whole new RED system is created in this ingenious way where one can attach different modules in many different ways, I suppose it wouldn't be impossible for the viewfinder to be placed almost in front of the lense.

But on the other hand, I might be totally wrong. :D

How about a Red designed iPhone app that could blue-tooth to the Redmote (if so equipped with BT) and record all setup data from a shoot, i.e. lense info, Redcode, time of day, shutter speed, aperture, possibly even transfer transfer single/first frame jpeg proxie stills, etc.

Wait.

Is the record button now on the dumb side of the camera body???

No, my guess is it's the the control for the attachment of the Modules, maybe a magnetic seal of some kind, maybe mechanized. The lights would indicate when it was safe to attach and detach modules and the button to begin the process itself.

my speculation, that's it.

Video from IBC of Jarred shows the latch mechansim is on the bottom of the modules and operated via a hex-key.

I ordered a 7D and got an email from Adorama telling me that for some strange reason my bank wasn't accepting charges from them, and that my order was on hold until I get solution for that.

I guess that instead of calling my bank to have them fix the issue, I'll just cancel my order and wait a little more for sexy Scarlet!

I won't be able to sleep decently until I have that camera in my hands!

I've had to ban myself from this site during normal business hours due to the fact that I cannot be productive while I try and work out a way to afford one of these cameras... Getting fired would blow my budget for sure...
