Hi,

Is it possible to set an arbitrary playback framerate in RedCineX?

I see two fields in Metadata, "Frame Rate" and "Record Frame Rate".
What determines the "Frame Rate" ?
Where can I change it?
And where is this info stored? It doesnt seem to be in the .RMD files.

hope I am not overlooking the obvious.
Matt

Hi Matthew,

You can't change the timebase of your clip, and RCX does not currently allow you to playback at a framerate other than what it was recorded with.

Thanks,
David

HI David,

But sometimes I get "Frame Rate" and "Record Frame Rate" are different, and sometimes not.
We have a lot of clips shot at 59.94fps, yet the "Frame Rate" is not always 59.94. In fact, its mostly coming up as 29.97. Everything plays in slow motion.
What determines this playback "Frame Rate"?

Matt

Hi Matthew,

Well "Frame Rate" can be considered your playback framerate, or better yet your project framerate that you decide upon before you start shooting. After that your "Record Frame Rate" is well, your record frame rate, ie. how many frames you capture a second. This effects how the "motion" looks in the clip .. like a record frame rate of 48 with a 24 fps timebase will look half speed etc ...

All in all if you are getting them different in the clip, it just means your camera settings are off.

Hope that helps,
David

Hi David,

OK. I see now that the playback frame-rate is being determined by the "project frame-rate" setting on the camera.
But now we have finished filming, we would like to change the playback frame rate.
I see no reason why the playback frame rate should be fixed. Unless I'm missing something.

In Premiere, or MediaComposer, I can choose to play the frames at any rate I like.
But, after editing, if I import the edit, using an EDL, into a timeline in RedCineX, how can I get RedCineX to respect the new framerates?

(all this is without sound, by the way)
thanks,
Matt
