  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Contax Zeiss Survival Guide

Nice stuff Nick. I know Jake from the Lift-Gamma-Gain colorist forum. I think he grades on Nucoda? He seems to be a skilled operator. Guys at this level see a lot of material come through their suites from DSLR to Alexa so if Jake is impressed, that's all that matters.

PS: On my way to Taipei now and hoping that Typhoon lurking down in the Philippines stays well south. I'm planning to capture some of the classic Formosan mountain dawn shots at 9000' but the weather will need to play nice...

Yup, Jake loves Nucoda. But for our remote grading, we use Davinci!

Have fun on your shoot, and safe travels!

Just a quick feeler. Thinking of selling my 100-300, might put it on Ebay tomorrow. It is in perfect condition, a mint copy and I love it. But I have decided to build a zoom lens set for action sports, and have my contax set for narrative work. I might get the 100-400 ii, or I am almost thinking of going 70-200 f4, then I can get an 85 1.4 contax as well for my prime set.

I have been looking for a 100-300mm but put it on hold as I'm trying to save for an F65 purchase first of the year. I have even stooped to selling all my Ferrari paraphernalia and extra parts on eBay to try and raise funds.

If anybody else would like one, I have a second 100-300 in pristine condition (original C/Y mount) that's just been evaluated and approved by Duclos.
(My first Zeiss Contax 100-300mm already has been cine-modded and EF converted.)

Hi guys,

Anyone knows of a good Contax lens technician in the UK? preferably London. I have this repeating problem with my 50mm where the aperture stops opening and closing, then my lens technician(he's not from UK) tweak something and it's back to work in 10 seconds, maybe someone knows how to solve it here?

Thanks!

I used an 1/8th locon on everything for this. But if I am using my BPM, which I have two strengths of, I would use the 1/8th on the contax and 1/4 on the sigma. Thanks Samir. I would love a fast wide contax, but the sigma has been an amazing lens, don't think I could live without it really. And like I was saying, add a little filtration to smooth out the highlights and your laughing.

Looks great Brandon! Did you use any filtration on the 18-35 to match contax? My widest Contax is 25 and I've gone back and forth on getting the 21 but recently been thinking of just sticking with the 18-35 to shore up the wides.

Thanks Brandon. That enormously helps me with my decisions. I will have to pickup that 18-35. Such a versatile lens.

Hey Samir! Somewhere DEEP in this thread is me showing the contax and sigma 18-35 side by side... In fact, here it is!

I notice the color handling is incredibly similar, and the sigma only has a LITTLE more contrast. They match way way too well. It's amazing. You will never regret the Sigma 18-35

I have done some test with my contax 25 and 18-35 as well. The contax has smoother highlight rolloff and of course amazing colors. The sigma had quite a bit less distortion, more contrast, and the best thing is that there is no focus breathing, pretty awesome. Sigma has avery nice color tone to it as well in my opinion, lighter skin tones then say a canon.

Yeah, it nearly looks like it has some similar genes…
