Hey Everyone,

My first post here, but I have been following this topic for months ..What a beautiful thing ! :)
Anyways, I thought I would share a little promo thing I shot with the Contax Zeiss 28mm 2.8 on the pocket BMagic camera. Not sure it is welcome here but I thought I would give it a shot.

Thanks for watching.

Patrick, awesome piece! Loved everything about it - the skintones, the shot selection, the pacing, and in particular the camera movement. Great, great job!

Can't wait to see what else you do!!

while we're posting videos, here's my pop video directorial debut, which is launching tonight in a local nightclub. American RnB artist Radio 3000 and his buddy H-ROC, having in the past fortnight signed to Warners, are about embark on a whirlwind tour of the USA. They are lovely guys to work with and they deserve every bit of success they've got coming their way.

We shot this video in 'exotic' Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, because the boys are here 'paying their dues' on the live scene. Locations were a dingy 'rent by the hour' hotel in Chinatown, a 3am saturday night/sunday morning eating hangout, and a white cyclorama. The colours in the cyclorama were made by mixing tungsten and fluoro light sources and then being creative with the white balancing and some boosting in Resolve. City tiemlapses are the view from the window of my condo. The corridor and night shots were taken at a nominal 1600 ISO, so Anti-matter or Neat Video NR have been applied.

You might hear more of this catchy little tune.

All shot on Dragon #1456 using Contax lenses, 21 mm MM, 25mm AE, 35mm f1.4 AEG, 85mm f1.4 AEG. Please accept my apologies for my appalling steadicam work. I need to practice more.

thanks, guys. We went to the launch party last night and part of it was a Q&A panel with all the cast. What was so cool about it was that the guys pulled up my son, who is my AC, on stage too and gave him some good props. What a lovely gesture. Radio and H-Roc really are nice guys and I hope that this does really well for them.

Nick, thanks for your kind words !

Quick question for you guys !

I am just about to maybe dive deep and purchase the 50mm 1.4 plus the 135mm 2.8 , most likely tomorrow.

I already own the 50mm 1.7 ... All things considered, Am I benefiting much by upgrading to the 1.4 model , the speed being minimally different, what other characteristics would make that lens better than its slower cousin ?

Also, anyone with thoughts on the 135mm lens ?

Prompt reply would be greatly appreciated.
I need to decide whether to make the move tomorrow.

Thanks again !

Patrick,

On upgrading to 50mm F1.4 from the 50mm F1.7

PRO:

- Metal build
- Better bokeh
- More organic rendition
- Better flares
- Better sharpness past F2.8

CONS:

- More expensive
- Bulkier / heavier
- Softer WO

I personally prefer the 50m F1.4 btw...

Hey Tomasso,

Thanks for such quick and informative reply. Very valid points.
I had thought the differences were less visible.

Have you had any experience with the 135mm 2.8 lens ?

thanks.

One more point: The 1.4 50mm is focusing down to 45cm, the 1.7 to 60cm only.

What do you want to know about the 135mm 2.8? Great lens, but if you want something for portrait smaller and lighter, go for the 100mm 3.5.

Update Zeiss Jena Pancolar 80mm 1.8 has 270 degrees focus rotation. Just received the lens. The whole set Zeiss Jena set is such a small and compact kit of lenses. Will start soon to test it.

thanks Uli,

My main points would be :

1) How is it wide open ?
2) How much different is it from the 135mm 2.0 version ?
3) How does it render in 4 or 5K ?
4) Overall handling, built quality and feel of the focusing ring.
5) Any CA issues ?

Any input much appreciated.
Obviously I did my own research but this feels like the best place to ask to get the true feel of the lens :)

Thanks !

Thanks a lot for your reply Uli! Already heard good things about the Minolta, the only drawback is its focal range.

Meanwhile I did some more research and found this threat on reduser:
http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?94011-Canon-80-200mm-F2-8-L-A-Real-Magic-Drainpipe

Looks like the Canon could be the lens I was looking for.
Does anybody have personal experiences with the 80-200 2,8 L and can confirm @Shervin Mandgaryans opinion?

Thanks again and all the best,

David

PS: sorry to interrupt the 135/2,8 conversation. I might add that I find its integrated lens hood to be a little flimsy on some examples, apart from that the build quality is definitely up to Zeiss-standards!

Thanks David for your input.

And speaking of price.
Does 200$ feel good for the 135 2.8 and 300$ for the 50 1.4 ?
Both in pretty new like condition, no scuff, no issues.

I might be going to pick them up today:)

Those prices are certainly reasonable!
