  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Contax Zeiss Survival Guide

True: Investing into good glass seems one of the better options to store some money these days…

BTW, anybody around here selling a decent 28-85 zoom? I never really liked it for filming being push-pull (that's just me, for sure), now that I have the Sony A7R for stills I'd like it back. So stupid to sell it (long before full-frame mirrorless showed up).

If you like to sell, please PM.

For sure! I'm glad I invested in my kit like I did.

My 28-85 Vignetes very heavily with the 5D MKIII have you tried it with the A7 yet?

How about THIS guy as an investment? =P 55mm f/1.2 Planar
I'm sure it's no Otus, but it could be way more Superspeed inspired then the 50mm f1.4, don't you think?
I don't like my 50mm that much, in fact, everytime I need to use it, I try to avoid it.

It is a no brainer,
the 28mm 2.8, like Uli said so eloquently, is a killer lens.
As for the 60 macro, you definitively want and need it. ;)
B.

Well, my plan, after I bought my first kit, was to invest in one lens per year, so I could save up for the more expensive goodies (18, 21, 28 f2, 60Macro 1:1, 100f2, 35-135 Zoom) but now I'm going to get me a camera, so it's going to be tight to get a lens, maybe I'll get the 28 f2.8 just to have one, then I'll get the f2 further down the line.

Thanks for the heads up, David. No, I didn't try it yet, just my Minolta SR 28-85. That vignettes only at 28mm WO, if I close it down a bit or zoom in a tad (still under 35mm) it goes away. It's a decent zoom, BTW, but it doesn't have the Zeiss look…

Would it be the same for the CZ or worse? Do you have an A7?

Any other opinions?

It might be the sensor (angle of light rays), so has anybody tried it on an A7 or A7R?

Thanks Ben, I'll go for it!

Thanks dude. Us OC users have to get together again...it's been way too long!!

Chris! I have since moved up to the Bay Area, was hoping someone would pick up the mantle once I had left. We should try and have a meet up and I'll time a visit down haha.

I might have to redo the Lens comparison between the Super Speeds and the Contax's a friend and fellow Reduser owns the super speed set so it might not be that difficult. I was pretty rushed and there were some things I didn't account for. Actually I suppose I could post some stills. It'll have to wait for the weekend as I'm shooting 3 different music videos this week!

Also quick question for you guys. I'm thinking about buying the 18mm to round out my set. I have 80mm fronts for all my other lenses. I'm a bit confused at the 70mm to 86mm screw in ring thread I keep reading about for the 18mm. Is there any feasible way to put an 80mm front on the 18mm or is it to difficult? Or would it not matter either way as the angle would be too wide and the hood/front be in frame?

Just picked up a 35-70 from KEH, nice to be joining the club. Should arrive around the same time as my epic dragon. Fun!

Does anyone make gears for the 35-70 that cover the push pull range?

If I had one CZ Contax lens to invest in I will go on that one in a snap.

Good luck with you purchase David.

Thanks! I may get the 60mm Macro first, since in S35mm terms or GH4+SpeedBooster terms it becomes a 85mm equiv. which I love and need for portrait work. I think it's a better investment then a 42.5mm PannaLeica for example... no?

I wish I had one!

I never had an issue with vignetting on my full frame 6D with the 28-85

That's great, but very strange... I thought the vignetting was pretty heavy with the 5D Mk III I tried out, if I ever use one again, which I hope not, then I'll grab some screens and post here.

Yep I can confirm zero vignetting at 28mm on my A7s

Cool!!

Awesome!! I really really want one, but can't justify the purchase at the moment... =P

Just to add to this.. A very quick street test of the 28-85mm with the A7s

Check on flickr for proper no-crappy flickr embed quality.

Forget getting one of those just announced £1200+ zooms

Thanks for sharing! They look great!!

Speaking of the 28-85mm zoom, how loose the zoom is supposed to be? I think mine is a bit too much, I wish it was a bit harder. How much can you guys pan up or down without it moving?
