Contax Zeiss Survival Guide

Here is a "Drunk History" style thing I did for my friend who was on Big Brother a couple years ago. Every week he does a parody. The "Drunk" stuff was shot on 50 1.4 and 85 1.4 Straight out of 5Dmkiii, his aesthetic is "youtube". Green screen is a handycam. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ap_TAScEoo

Chad this looks really good! Youtube "easthetic" or no, the interviews look fantastic regardless. Nicely done! Love the 85 1.4!

Gorgeous as always Chris. Love the symmetry when he's kneeling in front of the altar. Reminds me of Deakins/Cohen brothers...

You're always way too kind Nick. Thanks!

Nah...you deserve it.

PS getting my Helix shipped out this week! Can't wait to start flying my Contax! Getting Epic upgrade next week too...so going to be a big week for my crew and I. Don't be surprised if I reach out and ask for pointers! Love how you've been flying all year...

Hey guys, just found this simple but informative guide to the Contax lens lineup:

http://www.contaxcameras.co.uk/slr/slrmanlenses/distagon15.html

Interesting to note...the only zoom described as matching or surpassing primes is the 35-70:

Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 35-70mm f3.4:
"The high performance is equal or superior to that of a fixed focal length lens throughout the zoom the zoom range."

Chris those are looking sick!!! Awesome!!! How's the ATOMOS working for you? You using the Samurai Blade via SDI?

Hi all,

Not contributed for ages as I am selling my soul currently doing terrible internal corporate work to pay for my Epic upgrade. 2 paydays away now woohoo!

I'm off to Vietnam and Cambodia in September/October and was planning on getting a Sony A7s for the trip. Want to be nice and compact as there wil be a fair bit of walking/hiking but wouldn't mind a bit of reach too. Do you guys reckon a 180m f2.8 plus a Mutar would be preferable to taking my existing 300mm f4? weight/reach wise?

Hmmm..it would weigh less, yes...for sure. Another option is the 100-300 which is also quite small, and very VERY sharp...but not cheap.

best.

cheers Nick. In other news I just ordered a new Dog Schidt lens and will pre-order their new 38mm attachment before the trip too. On top of that I just got a new cheap Helios 44m and it came with a very cool looking funky rotating Helios kaleidoscope filter thing that comes with it that really i bought it for.

Looks great for mad promo stuff and all manner of pseudo double exposure true detective crazy. Will have a play and report back :)

Have you had a chance to do anything funky with your DSO lens yet?
