  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Contax Zeiss Survival Guide

What do you mean by "bad sections"?

The Zeiss 85mm in a Contax, or C/Y mount was available in the following configurations...

85mm f1.2 Planar MM Germany
85mm f1.2 Planar AE Germany
85mm f1.4 Planar AE Germany
85mm f1.4 Planar MM Japan
85mm f2.8 Sonnar AE Germany
85mm f2.8 Sonnar MM Japan

Each of the Contax lenses sold had a quality check performed before it went to market, but after 30 years of use I could see how individual lenses could be out of spec.

Dave

Dave, Just wanted to mention that I have a variation of the 85mm 2.8 that is not on your list. Mine is an MM made in Germany. It has the green 22, and the serial # begins with 843. Possibly a low production combination?

Dear friends and colleagues,

how much should one pay these days for an 18mm in decent condition?

TIA

I paid $530 for an optically great, but physically meh, copy.

Helloooooo 60mm Macro!

Don't chew your nails

Light Color Correction:

Hit up RP lens. They have much better front caps. Very snug.

Exactly. The RP front caps fit VERY SNUG with Cordvision fronts. They are the perfect combo!!

@Jeffery - love those Macro shots! Yeah the 60 Macro is a beast!

@Chris - dude you are killing it with the MoVi + Epic + Contax! You are on a roll!!!

I have an 85 2.8 MMG as well. I don't think many were made!

Hello guys,
Hope everything is cool with everyone. To explain my absence very quickly: I've been really busy, trying to make money to get out of a big financial hole. =P

Anyway, just wanted to post something I did recently with my Contaxes:

I directed and shot this, it was one of those run and gun things where I had literally 15min to light and shoot the intereview with these people before they rushed in to do the talks, which I had to run down and turn the camera on very quickly.. crazy, wish it came out better. But I did the best possible.
With that out of the way:

I shot everything with the GH3 and Contax to MFT Metabones Speedbooster, interview with primes and talks with the 28-85mm Contax Zoom, colored with FilmConvert.

For this interview both wide and closeup were with the 35mm f/1.4@f2-2.8 with the Blackmagic Filter

Same as above, but the very wide shot on the Talk was with a Sony Z7

Same as others

I remember using the 50mm on one of the interviews, I think it was for this one and I forgot to use the Blackmagic filter since it was the crazyiest of the interviews:

Sorry for the lack of subtitles, but to put in context, this is for the Film School I attended to many years ago... they have these talks every beginning of semester, and in this specific one, 3 days earlier Eduardo Coutinho had died. For those who don't know, he was the most important documentary filmmaker from Brazil, maybe of of the most important globally I'd say... the woman in the last video here was his editor and long time friend. Very touching interview.

I'll share more of my stuff as I get myself together in the next few days... and I'll catch up and reply some of the posts here as well! =)
Glad to be back in this lovely community of Lens lovers! :001_tt2:

Cheers

David these are looking great! The HBM filter is doing wonders, especially on that first piece (my fave, love how he looks into camera).

Hope you're well!!

best

More straight from the camera grabs. This scene was a fun one shot in broad daylight. It took a bit of time to setup.

I had the grip team create a darkroom right outside the windows, allowing enough room for the HMI's that I knew I wanted to place there. We had to use duv as well as tarp as it was a rather large area to put these 3 lights.

(2) 1.2k HMI's (one shot straight through the window, other used with silver bounce, 1K tungsten on a dimmer for lightning effect, and a tungsten practical in the room. It was a tiny room, maybe 10x15.

We also hung PVC pipe above the windows. Holes were drilled in the PVC pipe, then a hose was placed at one end, capped off at the other. It was angled at about 45 degrees, so water ran down all the windows. It's a poor-man's way of making rain. With a soft background, it looks amazing!

Shot on a 50mm Zeiss Contax, @ f2.8.

A little more flarey for effect. Gosh they flare beautifully.

Very nice! You have a LOT of information there. They look like sharp, versitile images. Awesome!
