  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Contax Zeiss Survival Guide

Even one declared as new, but defective (either fungus or separation) over here in Germany went for over 350,- € recently.

The lowest good one went for 499,- buy now in seconds a few month ago, others go for as much as 1,100 "buy now"!
 
Been reading this and have to say its been a big help for sure. I was on ebay looking around and found a 80-200 F4 for 200 bucks, photos looked really nice and even said I can return it I dont like. So I took the plunge. Will be using it on the GH4 as well as RED when we rent.

That's great! I will be using mine on Scarlet and GH4 as well. I have the C/Y to M43 Speed Booster, its awesome! It will turn the 80-200 into a F2.8! lol. GH4 arrives tomorrow.

I stand by what i said a long time ago that if you could only buy 2 Contax lenses, get the 28 2.8 and the 80-200. So good!

I need to look into the speedbooster for the GH4, let me know how that combo works out. Would be nice to have 2.8 Have fun with the GH4 its a sweet little camera with lots of power.
 
Today my Contax 35-70 3.4 arrived... Awaiting EF adaptor for Scarlet and 5D (mostly magic lantern raw video, might use it for timelapse if there isn't a mirror issue). This is my first Contax lens and first impressions are great, very solid and the focus is crazy smooth compared to my EF lenses.

I'm not a lens nut by any means, I've owned EF, FD, Nikkor and Voigtlander lenses (as well as rented Cookes), but as far as build quality goes this lens seems great - although the push/pull seems strange at first. I'm a director and not a DOP, so I'm just after a small but solid set of vintage lenses to contrast my EF lenses, so the 35-70 was dipping my toes into the water :)

PS Ben - some draw jopping shots there my friend. Love the Hollywood bokeh on flower, and the 85 MMJ portrait is SUPERB. Awesome job!
 
Got my 80-200 lens today, I have to say this is bad haha, I will be buying alot of these lens. Its just amazing. From the look to how smooth and well built the lens is. Plus it can cover almost any sensor from my GH4 all the way to 5D.
 
Halfway considering selling my contax collection. If anyone is interested let me know. Would only sell as a full set.

Don't really want to sell them but i'm finally gonna make the move to some pl glass.

I nearly pulled the trigger on a 28-85 a while ago, but that didn't work out. When looking at the two lenses the 35-70 made more sense to me this time around. Cheaper, smaller, lighter, I shoot macro sometimes, preferred the constant aperture. I've wanted a Rokkor 58 1.2 for a while but if I dig the results from the 35-70 I'll get a Contax 50 and see where things go from there.

Ben the images you posted above for the 28 f2 Hollywood look amazing, especially the portrait.

I own the Speedbooster for C/Y, and it works very well on my GH2 and BM Pocket, insane sharpness and speed. After all, it was designed by Brian Caldwell.

So I have no doubts it'll be great on a GH4.

Thanks, hoping to rent one for my next project using the GH4, will also be using this lens on a RED for a summer project so that should be neat.
