  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Contax Zeiss Survival Guide

And their SSD recording media is VERY reasonably priced...256GB for $395, $512GB for $795...

Ok, as an update to my 85mm concerns here:

http://www.reduser.net/forum/showth...rvival-Guide&p=1271537&viewfull=1#post1271537

My new 85mm arrived today, SN 790XXXX. I was replacing an AEG with unknown SN and a MM with SN 722XXXX, the MM bloomed like crazy wide open!

This new one is fantastic! So super thrilled!!!! My set is finally complete. I may (like all addicts) continue to add, but I am so happy.

So it definitely was something wrong with the lens. Good to know you were able to get a better copy.

Stopped down though, even by F4, this lens starts to scream. I LOVE, LOVE this lens.

I have finally access to my server, and because you love love the 25AE, Dr Morrisson, some more colors.

You were the key to solving the conundrum, honestly, because you got me on to the 722XXXX problem. Thanks!

WOW. Brice, the light rolloff off the 25 AE looks..u.mmm...fantastic!!!!!

And the colors "glow".

WOW.

I just got my copy back from RP lens and added it to the "kit".

Can't wait to use it.

Also just got my modded 16 AE fisheye back...and WOW!!!!!! That rocks too!!! So sharp I felt like it was slicing through my living room.

Thanks Jeffrey and thanks Nick for the Contax tips.
Because of this specific session, and also because I had no choice and just one lense.
Just realised how great the 25AE is.
So natural in its render!
I picked that specific one thinking it's the widest before optical distortion.
Ben is right, it's a serious candidate for architechture stuff aswell.

Yes...the 25 2.8 AE renders GORGEOUSLY. And don't forget...on Dragon...the FOV will essentially be a 21mm, which for cinema is a very important focal length (Janus Kaminksi says Spielberg "sees the world through a 21mm"...to give you a sense of the majesty of this focal length).

In terms of distortion, the 21 2.8 is pretty well controlled too (though you start to notice the wide "feel" yes...but lines are very straight).

The most remarkable control of distortion needs to go to the 18mm F4. Great rendering, not crazy sharp wide open (I find it more than usable)...but its mutant "skill" is it's shocking lack of distortion for such a wide-angle lens. Its distortion peeks at "-2", which is pretty much identical to the 21mm 2.8 and 25mm 2.8...even though its a MUCH WIDER LENS.

Which means...proportionally...its even better corrected.

We shot with it this summer on a NYC rooftop and my DP turned to me and said "h*ly shit!!!...all the lines are totally straight!!! This lens rocks!!". With the NY sykline behind us, we obv wanted to avoid any weird warps...and this guy delivered.

Absolutely love my 25mm and it was born to shoot in the 4kWS format. Still really thinking about getting the 18mm f4, but after using the 15mm cp2 part of me thinks I should just go for the ZE version of that when funds permit.

The ZE 18 3.5 is def improved...for sharpness....wide open. And it's a half stop faster. The coating is newer, so won't have be able to give you some of the luminous render we've come to love...but hard to argue with the technical improvements.

The ZE version actually has an ADVANTAGE over the CP2 version (believe it or not!!)...in that it will never vignette...even on a 5D. The CP2 housing is so large it will actually vignette at 6K on Dragon (Phil Holland checked and confirmed)...which to me is fucking dumb as nails. How can Zeiss make a full frame 18mm...and then have it vignette...on a cropped sensor?

Dumb as rocks...to me.

I agree...that 15 2.8 looks special...very special.

I have a 16mm T2 Arriflex Prime (which covers me for 5K), but for 6K...that 15 has me tempted...but it will "feel" like a 13mm on Dragon...so may be TOO wide...not sure!
