Contax Zeiss Survival Guide

Kirk, I sent you a PM...

@ Chris M, nice shots!

Just to show the versatility of Contax, here's a look most don't associate with the lenses; a happy, bright commercial look. Fun little product video for a kid's sippy cup. Shot with Dragon and Contax.

@ Greg - WOW, that spot looks AMAZING!!!! Are you using any filtration on your Contax glass? Or is that just Contax + Dragon awesomeness? That spot looks SO GOOD! Also, were you shooting 6K or 5K on this spot? Curious what rez this was originally.

best

On another note, just shot with Tim Gunn yesterday on a Project Runway BTS...with our Contax 35 1.4 and 85 1.4, modded by RP lens. Clents were so happy with image. Will post spot soon as it's ready!!

Nicely done. Gotta love the Contax line.

Thanks Nick! Yep, just Dragon & Contax awesomeness. No filters. Shot 5.5k HD. Really digging Dragon and Contax. The perfect match!

Great spot. Now I want one of those cups :)

Haha! Yeah, I find them quite handy. It keeps the cat from dipping his head in my glass and drinking my water. And they're great for being a couch potato. You can stay lying down while drinking, don't have to move. Still need to try it with tequila.

Love that you shot this 5.5K!! I'm strongly considering upgrading to Dragon Scarlet (and skipping Epic Mx...then Epic Dragon)...just so I can get my hands on a Dragon sensor as soon as possible...seeing how good your spot looks shot at 5.5K makes me VERY optomistic for how good Dragon Scarlet will look at 5K!

Again, GREAT SPOT! Looks killer.

Kirk, exactly which 25 and 135 do you have? I have a 25/2.8 AE and a 135/2.8 AE, and both have been fitted successfully with Leitax mounts.

I too was under the impression (from Leitax) that you needed MMJ lenses to convert using their mount, at least to Nikon mount. Can you offer any further details on this??

I believe Tom has converted all his primes to EOS mount. I have a broad range of AE and MM's, and all have been successfully Leitaxed by RP lens, as well.

It does appear Leitax's NIKON solution for Contax is limited to MM's however, not sure why...

Hope this helps!

I require Nikon mount as I'm on R1 MX with Optitek mount. Not sure why Leitax only offers mounts for MMJ to Nikon either. Need to stick with Nikon mount as I have a large collection of beautiful Nikkor glass.

If anyone has converted AE to Nikon mount using Leitax I'd love to hear about it!

Just got mine 28 f2 Hollywood & 135 f2, it's abit soft wide open, I've heard that they have lots of characteristist so I decided to keep. I have a plan to switch to GH 4, need some advices to build a Contax set for m4/3. Someone help me please...

Greg,
I like the sort of vintage look of your spot, sooo organic.
Anyway it look like you had bad luck with the natural light on the outdoor shot (when dad and sun are playing ball)
Thanks for sharing, and well done.
B.

Thanks Brice. I'm really liking the Contax + Dragon combo.

Yeah, on those outside shots we did those at the end of the day and the sun had gone behind the mountain. Looks like we shot it on a different day. Would've been nice to get a little back light on dad. And since we literally only had 5 minutes left with the kid to get that shot due to child labor laws that restrict the number of hours minors can be on set, we had no time to try to set up some HMI's to do something more interesting.
