  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

CONTAX ZEISS: HUGE DEMAND?! SELLING OUT?!

Here's the lens test of our rehoused PL mount Zeiss Contax primes that some of you had asked to see.

Sorry about the nasty noise, but in our haste, we output in 444 and then compressed to 422.

(The green noise is NOT on the original files.)

The clamp-on mattebox seemed to be causing a great deal of our problems with the lenses yesterday...lesson learned..thanks for the advice!

Can you see the bumpiness as the follow focus is turned?

Trying to figure out how to stop that from happening.

Any advice is so helpful!!

Cheers,

Brandon

Hey Brandon, just PM'd you. Call me tonight lets talk about the bumpyness...could be a couple of things. We'll share with all once we figure it out. thanks.

You might have the follow focus drive gear too tight against the lens gear.

Yes you are right BUT is it f2.8.....
Well, there is that consideration...but honestly, I don't think that f3.3-f4.0 is going to cause me much of a problem. I know that everyone loves to get the fastest glass they can find, but I think most of those lenses look better stopped down a little anyway. Anyway, so far I'm very happy with the 28-85.

I have been using the 28-85mm for a small temp green screen area I have setup at my studio where I can quickly get talent in & out. Shooting at f4 gives a nice clean image throughout the focal range.

I agree most of these lenses really "pop" stopped down. Wide open, some of the 1.4's and f2s have a lovely softness that's still usable. But stop down a bit and...POW!

However that zoom is sharp even wide open. Kind of an amazing beast really.
