  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Contax to Nikon or RED?

I don't feel that a direct contax mount would make any sense. Since the Contax Zeiss lenses are all fully manual anyways, why not just get a Birger mount and buy the c/y adaptors? In that way, you can use both C/Y lenses and Eos Lenses without changin mounts.

Just my 2c. :)

Yean,

One reason is that using the Birger would mean you´d have to use an adaptor for every lens, something that would introduce an extra variable, i.e. possibility for softness.

The more important reason for me is that Birger is not yet shipping in quantities, and I need a solution now, not "next week".

Les certainly is a nice man.. but in all fairness, Ive so far waited 8 months for my Contax adapter for my RED and still no news from him. I even sent him a Contax Adapter so he could use it as a model.

Well, the good news is that the birger mount looks like it has finally gotten over all the hurdles and will be shipping "next week"! :weight_lift:
So you could go that route and get the Contax attachment.

My guess is that you might want to count on at least some kind of delay though, given the history of that saga. But things look better than they ever have for a reasonable delivery date.

Has anybody asked Doug Underdahl about a Contax mount?

I'm selling an Allstar A mount, Plus PL mount adapter, Plus 4 Contax adapters and a nikon adapter, all together for $1000 + shipping. I know this isn't the right place for this - but I will link to my for sale thread shortly...

Funny coincident - I am just researching the same issue.

What I´ve come up with so far are these 3 solutions:

1.) The Birger Mount (due to ship any day [which it has been for a while]), which gives you a Canon EOS mount. There are plenty adapters available converting the Contax Mount to the Canon. Ebay is a friendn here ;)

2.) The P+S Technik Universal Mount adapter, which is currently tested in Munich. P+S offers a multitude of adapters for their Mount system, and Contax/Yashica is just one of the many.

3.) Wait for Birger, Red, or someone else to come up with a native Contax mount converter.

Bottom line: there is no shipping solution yet, but 2 of them are just around the corner. Since currently ordered Reds won´t ship before the end of the year, there is plenty of "next week" delays for the Birger and the P+S to hope that they will be available by then.

Also A mount with Y/C intermedate mount.

The Contax 100mm macro is outstanding, nearly as good as the Leica 100mm.
