  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Contagion- Soderbergh...

Not sure why... this is their 6th RED movie. We need real names here.

Jim

I can see AC's sweating, but not DIT's, since r3d's have been in the wild for 2 years now... so a jump to 5k will not be that bad for them.

But learning a "Beta" camera on a feature, I'd be scared

Exactly what they did on Ché... :-)

Jim

Ah, exactly my second thought was as soon as I posted.

Was it that or Crossing the Line that they really only had a record button working?

"Crossing" only had a record button and RED Drives. Soderbergh actually recorded to CF. :-)

Jim

Will be interesting to see how the actors will react to a smaller camera, some love the closer relationship to the crew/director/CamOp some find it weird to start with.

Any plan progressing for the RED Documentary :P

Better than film. Smaller than video.

Hey Jim, I just made a slogan (or should I say tag line) for Epic right there...

Do I get a free CF card?

:)

Awesome! Congrats!

What an advocate for your company he's turned out to be!

History repeats itself. Feels just like the early days of the Red One!

The truly exciting part is that this means that we're one step closer to shipping.

I can't tell you how many ways I've configured Epic in my head, and I can't wait to do it for real.

This is more than another feather in the cap, this is a significant milestone.

I am envious of all involved.

... on EPIC Tattoo.
That latter part is the most astonishing relieved one, even though for a feature with release date in October 21 2011 which brings the Epic Tatoo release to somewhere over fall 2010 rainbow.

I really fail to understand where this "The focus puller or the DIT will freak out" BS. Since when hasn't there been a shoot where nothing is new, or invented, or pulled off a hat, or what have you? I've never known of a shoot that has been like assembling a Big Mac at lunchtime under pressure. WTF?

Filmmaking is not a cookie cutter endeavor. Not one is ever alike to the next. Bravura filmmaking has risks. Always has, always will. So... the director pulls out a new one on you... a NASA lens on a camera you never operated before, for example... big deal! Bring it on! Research, test, practice and rise to the occasion so you can show him/her your professional and artistic worth. We're talking about a creative endeavor here, both technically and artistically.

Yeah, bring on the new unproven cams. Bring on the new experimental tech. Have an idea on set to make it work better? Spill it out! We're here to make things work. The hard way. Heuristically.

Cowards and chickenshits, please stay home. The corollary here... Being a cry-baby never got anyone anywhere in this biz.

If you can't stand the heat of working with new tech, stay out of the kitchen.

Wow! I can feel the water rising as the tide approaches.

I am so looking forward to having a camera the size of a 'Blad I can shoot movies with. I can just tell my images will improve.

Not sure why...

Jim

It can be frustrating for AC's if the only thing enabled on the camera is the record button.... and they have to keep telling the DP/director we can't do that yet... I'm sure more than just the record button will be enabled for the show but you get the point.

Great news! Hoping this means not too many more months until us Stage II adoptees will have an EPIC of our own to shoot with :)

Want... to... work... it!!!

"An action-thriller centered on the threat posed by a deadly disease and an international team of doctors contracted by the CDC to deal with the outbreak." - Imdb.com

Methinks we'll might be seeing piles of 120fps.

Glad to see Soderbergh leading the way for you again Jim!

Congrats to you and the RED crew on the new camera!

All the best!!!
