Hello,

I am trying to connect my Red Scarlet to my iMac to use it as a monitor/ live capture in the studio. I am using the 502 SmallHD connected via BNC as my on camera monitor which works perfectly. I have been trying the HDMI port on the RED and on the SmallHd then using a HDMI to Thunderbolt adaptor to try connect to my iMac (it has no thunderbolt or HDMI port as its a new 27inch 5K). It works when a feed from the SmallHD to a different external monitor via the HDMI cable. The adaptor (HDMI to Thunderbolt) works when connecting the iMac to the same monitor to use as an additional computer monitor.

Is it possible to find a way to make this work? If not what would be my best solution for connecting the RED and iMac?

Thanks,

Keiba

Hey Keiba,

You won't be able to use it with target display mode if it is retina 5k 27in 2014 and up. This is a note from apple site "Note: iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) and later iMac models can't be used as Target Display Mode displays" so I guess your only option if you want to use a imac would be an ealier mac if yours is older you could try command-F2
