Confirming Avid EDL in Quantel

Wow, thanks a lot Henrik, unfortunatly i can just try it tomorrow, because i am at home already. But it looks like its going to work.

Thanks big time

Haris

Ig you highlight the whole NAME column and do a ctrl-D or cmmd-D, you can paste the entire column into either Labroll or Camroll which can be used as source in EDL Manager.

Hello Henrik,

thanks a lot for your help. I have to say its still not working. Can you tell me what version of Avid and what Version of Metafuze your working with ?
Also we have to relink all the time the clips imported in avid with the ael. We have Avid Media Composer 3.5.1 and Quantel EQ 4.1 rev 3 and 4.0.
Comparing the clipnames, they are the same. Even if i lead quantel in the confirming option till the exact folder, doesnt work.

No idea why its still not working.

Regards
Haris

The avid I did this in yesterday was an Avid 3.0.5. On the eQ we're on 4.1rev3. What does the log in the background on the eQ say? Metafuze was 1.2 downloaded from Avid yesteraday.

Relinking the clips after using the ALE is kinda the nature of the beast I think.

Pass me the error from the log window on the eQ. Or send the whole Recent.html once you got the error. =)

Aaah! Brilliant. Then this would work just fine for Haris, once he get the eQ to accept the files. =)

I dont know if you can read it.
It says that it couldnt find sequence for source......and so on.
But the sequence is there.
How was your settings in the edl manager for reel id type (Master List) ?

Another thing which just came to my mind. We filmed with different framerates, such as 120 fps and 60 fps.
If it makes a difference.

Hey. Framerates should not make any difference. We have conformed nicely with different framerates.

Kinda hard to see on that downscaled picture what it says. But from the little I can see I guessing you have a time code issue. Are you using edge or world timecode, or what they are called. Set the option in the F1 menu to "preferred" and see what happens. If it already is at preferred, try the other settings. =)

The tc problem might be back in the Avid. Seems like kinda odd TC's on those RED-files in the AAF. Maybe Michael P has something to say about that. I'm not that home in Avid. =/

Now i found the problem. I was wondering already about the strange tc anyway.
The original RAW File starts with tc 01:00:00:00 opening it in Metafuze it makes 08:23:00:05. I think the problem is in Metafuze

My bad. I think that time code is correct. As long as that time code follows the whole way to Avid, to edl to conform. Which it seems to do. I always mix the name of the TC's up but think that's the "Time of day" code, right? Check your F1 settings in the eQ. Change that little popup menu that you have there for RED-files. Play with the three settings and see what works. Think that will solve it. It should work with "preferred". But test "Time of day" or Absolute or what it's called there. Should solve it.

Cheers.

Yeeeeehhhaaa!!
It works..

Thanks a lot Henrik.

And thanks to Michael too, for your suport guys..

If one of you guys ends up in Cologne for X-Reason, your invited to a Kölsch (Colognian Beer)...hehe

Have a nice day
Haris

Hahaha. Glad that it worked. :sifone: What did you change the F1-menu to?

Cheers:

From preferred to edge. Now i have to write down everything, before i forget ...

Haris

Interesting. Normally preferred will work since it should be tagged in meta data what to use. But as long as it works I guess it's fine. =) But... I bet my left nut on that a lot of this will change once Mfuze 1.3/1.5/2.0 (or what it's name will be) is released. And that should not be to far away now.

I have also filed a request at quantel to allow us to access the camroll column in AAF's as tape name/originator. then we can forget this stinkin' edl-business. ;)

Hello Henrik,

a Question.. Do you have an idea how it works with the confirming exactly. I mean the orig. timecode is changed in Metafuze. Which TC is Quantel using to import the orig. Files according to the edl(aaf). Just for understanding...

Something is a bit odd in your scenario here. But I'll just go over how I believe it's supposed to work. Though I'm no DOP or DIT so i might have gotten this wrong myself.

But the "absolute" time code is what I think most people use when working with RED. And that is set in the camera when shooting, I think. So then that travels through the workflow in the metadata. I don't know what metfuze reads, if it reads preferred or just Time of Day (TOD). The eQ is defaulted to "preferred" TC. Which means that the eQ will look in the MetaData to see what TC the camera dude had set it to. And in addition to that you have the option to set it in the F1 menu to either Absolute or Edge.

But I can't really wrap my head around what's happening in your scenario there. Sorry, by head is a tad broken atm. :embarassed:

No,no everything is working fine now. Actually i write my diploma about the red workflow with different systems like avid, quantel and finalcut at the WDR (a german Broadcaster),because they think about too shoot their movies with the red (till now they shooted on 16 mm film) and the arri D21. So i need to understand really everything whats going on, not to write any bullshit. Next month i will shoot a Musicvideo with the red, till then i have to decide in which system to edit to be sure that it is going to work good. The Quantel thing was working out fine yesterday...thanks to you

Thanks a lot for your help
