Hi martin. I see you have been here 4 months with 5 posts. We have operated for 3-5 years without this kind of system. Mostly (99%) without issues. Many of us built trust thru meeting at events or sharing thoughts on posts and overtime. I like to buy and sell sometimes publicly, sometimes privately for various reasons. I will go on record that I don't really like the idea of this thread. This is not ebay, its a discussion board that happens to have a for sale section. I think trust is something you build over time, not on a thread. Glad you had a good experience but I think this thread is dangerous in that someone could get a negative review when they don't deserve one and vice versa some scammer with less than 10 posts could create false positive feedback.
If you spend as much time as most of us do on here... you will get to know people quickly. cheers

Hi Tim.

I understand your point, but I made this thread because I wan't to know first hand experiences of other reduser sellers, not share my own experiences. As you might have guessed, my living in Cancun pretty much disables me to meet in events and socialize with other redusers, and I really don't have to much time to chat online... So, I think this post will help many redusers, specially new ones like me, to avoid getting scammed. Although you have a very important observation regarding false positive feedback. I can only say that if there is a scammer among us, he will probably end up scamming somebody with or without this threat.

But I'll give you this, if somebody else complains I'll delete this.

Best.
M

I think this forum already tells you if a person selling is a scammer or gives poor service. Unless they are new and this is their first time it doesn't take long to find out. I know through my own experience and having sold things here that people have said I am trustworthy and deliver what I say. Quality can also be subjective. For instance, there are times I have seen a lens that too me is poor but the next guy comes along and says wow, I'll buy it.

It is always buyer beware.

No need for this thread. Look deep enough and the info is already there

No complaints here, but TImur's point is valid. Maybe make it a positive feedback only thread? Just thinking out loud. I'm glad you are happy with your purchase Martin :)

Yeah that would be' nice!
Btw got a bad experience from a "trusted" reduser with many posts.
So many posts=top seller/Buyer is a dangerous Equation.
Just my opinion/experience

Alot, alot, of idiot scammers has contacted me through mail or via PM's... Usually they only have a few posts in the forum, or they are not registered at all, and if they contact you via e-mail, they have some fancy-sounding e-mail address, but with no real googleble company... Maybe some of them were not scammers, but some defiantly were, and I guess a lot of people have been ripped off, but are too embarrassed to admit it, as the enthusiasm for getting a too good deal, blinded them as idiots... at least that is my theory. Another thing is that the suspicious sellers never accepts pay-pal, why the **** is that a problem for anyone who has nothing to scam? Just some thoughts from a guy who likes to buy second-hand items as an alternative to factory new gear (i always buy Red gear from Red though, there is no reason to buy second hand when the sellers try to make a profit for second hand gear, it's disrespectful and makes NO sense)....

would like to post a word of caution about a set of lenses I was pursuing in hopes that its not too off topic.
there are a set of zeiss B-speeds for sale on ebay right now http://www.ebay.com/itm/160762574725?_trksid=p5197.c0.m619#ht_500wt_1413 and through my contact with it's seller, I would like to raise caution as I now have gotten additional photos from him, which seemed all well and good until i noticed that he sent pictures of two completely different lens sets (different serials, pl mounts, and gears), on top of that he doesn't know what im talking about when i ask about the accuracy of the marks, services, or flange focal distance. just wanted to pass on the information, seems suspect to me and didn't want anybody in the community to get burned.

Concur with Tim... you build your reputation through being a member of the community over a period of time. We have our own credit system. It usually starts with how long have you been on the forum, what type of posts have you made and a way to make sure the person doing the transaction is the same person that's making the posts. Which I usually just verify on here through PM and through email... and then check to see what other communities the person is on... Facebook, DVXuser, etc. That's usually enough to make me Paypal or drop a check or cash into a persons account. I've never been screwed so far and i've had hundred of transactions on here, including a few with Tim.

hmmmmmmm people have good points.... you never can really tell a user on here was selling some RPPs a year ago and the price seemed too good to be true. this user had only had 2 post and was only a member for a month or 2. i wanted the lenses so we called red on threeway and they verified he owned the lenses i sent the money via paypal and had the lenses the next day....... just because someone only has one post doesnt mean they are a scamer but in any case make sure youre protected

Ibrahim, yes, it's all about doing a little bit of research I guess, and some fantastic deals can be made in confidence...

several more have agreed so far, this thread needs to be closed. per your own words. Or are you not trustworthy? see what I mean?

EDIT: Thanks man. You had the right idea, but if you spend some time on here and you will find it almost impossible to get scammed. :)
Super smart people on here and very generous sellers and buyers.

@ Martin - I'm trying to get a hold of you. I sent you a PM but your stored quota is full and my message can't be sent to you. Your website doesn't have any contact emails either.

Please email me at: gm at gate5films com

Thanks.

Yep, full inbox... :)

Well, regarding this thread, point taken. We should get to know the community and probably the scammers will be easy to spot!
