I have found myself in the lucky position where I might be able to buy an Epic-X stage II kit, but I am fairly inexperienced, having worked on only small projects before.
If I get the camera, I would be very interested in working for experience, and in return offering my Epic-X for a very low rate, in order to gain as much experience as possible during the first year or so.

Is this an arrangement anyone would be interested in? And would it even be considered acceptable?

I am located in Scandinavia, but willing to work worldwide.

I will be grateful for any help, advice or critique.

hey man, you want to drop 50 000 usd (epic-x + assecoires) to get the possibility to almost work for free to gain experience?
buy a used red and shoot the hell out of it.
makes much more sense imho.

To work for low rates is a good way to get in to the business, but also a good way to get a big loan and break your knees and back carrying all heavy stuff around. Sooner or later you have to make money for living now and save for retirement. There are many, many jobs that pays better and less hard, so in the end it's just the question: Do you love your job? In that case it may be worth it. :)

Thanks!
I have looked at some of the executed Red Ones for sale on this forum, but thought the difference in price was small enough, that the Epic might be worth it. But I will definitely reconsider.

Another question: Would it be possible to collaborate with an established production company, working for experience with them and letting them use the camera, sharing the revenue they get from it?

work for low rates to get started is one thing, but working for low rates and spending 50000 while doing it is a different thing.

what do you want to be? dop? director?
by shooting you get better. with 50000 you can shoot some damn cool stuff instead of working on other peoples projects.

I really love working with pictures in any way or form. I also have a secondary income to live from, so the income needed to begin with will just have to cover the loan for the camera.
But before I expect to be able to make a living in this industry I believe I need a lot more experience and a larger network.

This is my first feeble steps into the professional world og cinematography.

My advice would be to work, PAID, in a camera rental house that has Red and Epics. You may have to start at the bottom, but you'll make a lot of contacts in camera crews and get to know all the high end kit inside out. THEN move into camera crews by asking if you can be a trainee on crews you've met while at the rental house.

I would like to be a dop, but thought it might be harder to gain an income from my own projects.

But of course, if I can pay off the loan by doing my own projects, that would be preferable.
