I'm a communication student - I have some shooting/editing experience, and I'm saving up in anticipation for the interchangable 2/3 Scarlet but I have a few questions.

First question: I'm used to HDMI outputs, and regular XLR imputs, but I can see the scarlet has seemingly proprietary connectors. Will non-red monitors work on Scarlet?

Second question: For those of you familiar with Red One, how efficient are Red's batteries at present?

I'm trying to get a realistic estimate of how much a quality rig would cost.

There's an HDMI connector on the brain, plus proprietary connectors for RED's monitors and EVFs. No problem connecting up other monitors. As for audio inputs, there's 3.5mm balanced connectors on the brain, or you can get the I/O module for XLR connectors (I think they might be mini-XLR though). The I/O module also has HD-SDI connectors if you want to use that for monitoring too.

The Basic I/O module uses mini-XLRs (due to their compact footprint) but the Pro I/O module uses full size XLRs (as requested)

Hey Stuart-
Any shot of getting an XLR only module. I for one don't really need the full spec of the Pro I/O module, but would still love to use full size XLRs which I've gotten very used to after five years with my trusty DVX, and all the cameras at work. So if there was a lower priced bare-bones audio module (maybe 2 full size XLR in with phanom + 2 extra mini xlr if you needed them) I think it would be great for a lot of people putting together a smaller kit.
Peace,

-Harry

Sweet. I could save 1,200 and some space by going with the basic I/O module, and using Red's mini-xlr to xlr adapter. If things don't change.

I priced a 2/3 Scarlet kit out, based on last known price estimates:

2/3 INTERCHANGABLE SCARLET BRAIN: $2500
BOMB EVF: $3200
REDMOTE: $550
Basic I/O MODULE: $2950
BATTERY MODULE: $1250
MODULE ADAPTOR: $300
DUAL CF REAR MODULE: $950
FOUR PACK CF: $1400
USED ANGENIEUX ZOOM: $1650

Ball Park Estimate: $13,550

Is this realistic? Am I radically underestimating the actual cost? I hope not, because this is amazing. It's only competition is the Sony F23, and that costs 150,000 body only. AND it only shoots up to 30fps. AND it only shoots 1080p. And it's enormous.

On the OTHER hand, considering I have NO other gear - no sound equipment, mattebox, light kit, c-stands, or heck even a sandbag, I've got some serious saving to do... heh.
