Computers taking over film making..

If the premise is that computers are taking over film making.... and these films suck, then having seen Transformers last night am forced to conclude: Michael Bay is a computer.

GI Joe looks to be to the spawn of two computers.

From what I've seen GI Joe seems to be going towards a more Speed Racer kinda style but pulling itself back out of the live action anime look.

Which reminds me. I loved speed racer. As a story. I thought the CG was mostly terrible. But I loved the story and thought its story struck just the right balance between upbeat cheesy kids movie inspirational and serious drama. Which is a nearly impossible task to do.

As far as tone goes I'm not certain though if GI Joe is going for that. I still can't tell if they are taking themselves seriously. Their casting says no. Their trailers say yes.

When I saw the trailer the art direction and the tone of it kinda felt like a 1990s saturday morning cartoon that has been shot live action on anamorphic.

GI Joe looks like the worst POS ever. I just watched the trailer and I can honestly say, it appears to have absolutely nothing to do with either the GI Joe doll I played with as a toddler, or the GI Joe cartoon I liked as a kid. The movie literally looks like a bad, random spoof of a Michael Bay movie.

Speaking of Michael Bay movies and the evils of CGI for CGI's sake, the most apt line I've read about the new Transformers movie is this:

"It's like deliberately beautifully rendered dog shit."

Looks like the theatrical trailer for 2012 has hit Apple.com, watched the 1080p version and its looking pretty slick.
I think Emmerich has gone digital as well, or at least half digital IMDB says Genesis and watching the trailer it does feel like well shot Genesis footage.

CG looks good, from what I see and real life actors also.
