Complete Optical Collimator For Sale

great info, thanks Jorge, as always you are an excellent communicator.we want to have a small rental shop for 4 to 5 sets of prime lenses from Zeiss ZF mount to SS MKIII to Red Primes to Cooke S-4. As well as a couple zooms. cant imagine going much over 135 maybe 200 (but there are other lens houses in town for servicing those needs) I think this sounds like something worth owning.

PM sent. Lets make a deal.

Tim,

Thanks!

There is a PL Mount "standard" included which is all that is needed to check PL mount lenses. The is no cost of ownership per year. The instrument has no parts that can wear out (even the LED light source will last indefinitely). I don't think you would need anything else other than an FFD depth gage kit to calibrate the micrometer.

The poster behind the collimator is a Cooke S4 lens poster which should be available from Cooke Optics or possibly from ZGC. The other poster is actually a CAD drawing which shows all the part numbers for the Cooke S4.

The collimator is still available. I have listed it on my eBay store:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320362583470

My feedback rating, previously a flawless 100% over the course of 8 years on eBay has just been reduced to 92% by one bidder upset over dead foam on a $300+ lens case that I sold for $50. I never received any e-mail from him about the matter.

I also find it interesting how eBay, in their infinite 800 pound gorilla wisdom, figure that 1 negative out of 260 equals 92% positive instead of 99.6% positive.

It's all part of eBay CEO's plan to marginalize and eventually eliminate the small occasional sellers, because he wants eBay to be like Amazon.com.

I can't wait until there is a credible competitor to eBay's virtual monopoly.

I've reduced the price on the collimator setup:

Also, if anyone cares (or knows someone who needs to transfer a lot of 16mm to digital), I am selling my Bell & Howell JAN 614 EVMS Telecine Projector:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320371188279

No playa-hatas please, I know it's film, I know it's regular 16mm (but can be converted) and I know it's ancient. But just think of all that historical 16mm film that is not being transfered because of the cost of CCD or flying spot telecine time.

Looks like I will have the Aaton A50 and Panavision Elaine collimator standards still available for separate sale.

I'm considering making a few PL Depth Gage Flanges. These will adapt to a standard dial gage to make a Flange Focal Depth Gage (you will still need a gage block and flat surface). Anyone who is interested should PM me.

The Richter Collimator is sold. As mentioned before, I still have the "Exotic" Panavision Elaine and Aaton A-50 standards (lens mounts) which the purchaser does not want. If anyone is interested in those items, PM me.

I'm still considering ideas for making Flange Focal Depth Gage kits. PM me if interested.

Obsolescent Lens Mounts

Obsolescent Lens Mounts

I always heard that Panavision only made about 70 Panavision-16 "Elaine" cameras. I've been in the business 15 years and I've only ever seen one (sitting in a box on the prep floor at PV Woodland Hills).

The collimator mount I have is Serial No. 2.

I think it's more of a collector's item at this point than anything else. I've only ever used my Aaton mount once.

All alternative lens mounts have been rejected by the industry. PL reigns supreme, with Canon and Nikon still mounts having some interest, and BNCR just hanging on (mostly due to the cost of PL lenses). C-mount because of small CCD cameras and because it's so easy to make.

If RED comes up with their own mount, they will really have to make a compelling case.

Obsolescent cine lens mounts:

Aaton A-50
Arriflex Standard and Bayonet (easily converted to PL so they are OK)
Bolex Bayonet
Cameflex?
Cinema Products CP-16
Eclair

If they go all "maverick" with the Red DSMC Mount. it I hope the FFD is short enough, and the diameter is wide enough that we can easily adapt anything pre existing to it.

My thinking. Even better would be to simply adapt to IMS. At least not another, additional standard. And every other mount available as adapter. For everybodies taste there is one.
But I bet I am earlier on the moon than RED will talk to P&S.

There are PLENTY of other obsolescent mounts available out there. Did you know that in addition to c-mount there were A, B & D? Lots of others as well.

Do any of the optical shops still have C-mount standards for the collimators? I have a couple of older zooms that will need attention when Scarlet is released. Good clean lenses that won't need much more than a routine clean lube and collimation. No junk.

I have a Richter and I have a Richter C-mount adapter.

Jorge, I sent you a PM but no response. I am interested in a FFD kit(s). I am also interested in obtaining a OCT19 mount "standard" for the Richter. I realize Richter does not list one, but I was wondering about a custom-made mount standard. Thanks
