Ok - here goes. I'm looking to offer wedding cinematography to supplement income. Doing my first freebie to build the reel this weekend, so I need to make a decision ASAP. I'm having trouble working out the name. My options so far are:

1) Walkingstick Films - this is my film production company. Logo/site already in finished or under way. Doesn't give off the "wedding" vibe though. Facebook feedback from female friends doesn't seem too great for this one either.
2) Weddings by Clay - mixed feedback on this one. Some say this one, some say it sounds like a wedding planner.
3) Clay Taylor Films - seems to be the popular choice from a lot of the bigger name wedding cinematographers (Ray Roman Films, etc.).

I've purchased domains for all three so when I get the decision I can roll with it and not have to worry about it.

Thoughts? Is name really that important? Do they just see your work and hire from that?

deleted... decided to save a version of this one for myself should I have need to venture into that realm.

Yes the name is that important.

No, they don't just see your work and hire you from that. Weddings are personal. The work has to be good, but they are hiring you. Go with #3.

Thanks so much for the feedback - I was thinking the best bet would be #3 for this side anyway - more personal.. you're right they're hiring ME and it's my NAME as the stamp. I was hoping I could use Walkingstick Films I guess since it's already a done deal. I guess not being lazy is best huh? lol

When I was doing Weddings a few years ago, separating my main production company's name to a wedding specific name worked wonders for me. Have you considered calling it "Walkingstick Weddings"? That way, you are still affiliated to your main production company but have something just for your wedding clients (with a look that brides will be attracted to).

I like weddings by clay. Pretty informal and easy going, and with some much stress associated with a wedding that would be an asset to someone planning a wedding.
