  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Compact flash bent pins

Even with extensive use I've been fortunate enough never to have bent a card pin. To be honest I didn't even know it was possible. Now you've given me something to worry about. Cheers.

It would be both difficult and risky! those pins are fucking close together, and I drink way to much coffee to do an surface mount soldering by hand. I was just showing an alternate part that could be incorporated into RED's design.

I was also thinking of soem kind of extension cable that would be mounted to the internal CF port, and provide an external socket. So If you ruined a pin on set, you could go back to the internal port.

Mike, are you saying you can replace the existing red cf module's cf socket with this push button one? If so, would that be difficult and/or risky?

We have experienced bent CF pins on shoots. As Matt has said the quickest way to fix this is with a jewelers screwdriver to right the bent pin and a headlamp to see what you're doing. Of course there will only be a limited number of times you can do this before you lose the pin altogether. . . .

Thank you Rocketeer for your post and providing this info

It's a user installable device. The RAW port is the only side module that needs to be done at the factory.
