I work freelance out of several editorials where I need to ingest multiple formats (from Red, Genesis, Phantom, etc), then output to a format that works for both Avid and Final Cut Pro (depending on the set-up that particular house has that I'm working out of).
After hours of research I'm beginning to think I need to invest in an NLE just to prep these files from home, then I'll have drives 'edit-ready', where depending which house I'm booked I can sit down, plug & cut. It's a bit difficult since I'm on the clock at the facility, but at home I have time to prep these files, but obviously I'd like to keep the prep time to a minimum.
Ideally I'll just have a dedicated system (or limited NLE) that specializes in rendering and output of Edit-ready files. I've read up on Assimilate Scratch, DVS Clipster, Autodesk Backdraft, Quantel IQ, Adobe CS4, and it's hard to tell what the best solution is at this time. Really I'm looking for something on the cheaper side (less than $50K), yet still fast at processing, it doesn't need all the bells and whistles as long as it can render things quickly, and most importantly have high-quality files that work for Avid and FCP.
Thanks ahead of time,
