I know this director. I recognize his hallmark (understatement) and the clear influence of the gritty, visual honesty of post-war Italian realism and British neo-realism. With his sly wink at the cultural vernacular of American southern gothic cinema (Deliverance, Dukes of Hazard) he lashes back with his spot-on dialectic on imperialism and post-feminist counter-objectification (the wildly powerful girl with the guns tattooed on her chest).

And who could miss the starkly visual metaphor of the Bush presidency, through the eyes of disaffected American youth (the guy with the naked butt in the window). I’m very proud (as I’m sure the entire Red team is) that he chose to use the Red camera as the centerpiece of this brilliant cinematic social-artistic nexus of anthro-mechocratic diasphoisism.
