I am not sure wether this was asked before but:

Will RED make their REDcode RAW usuable for every vendor of CC-systems like Lustre, Nukoda, Baselight, SpeedGrade or will this be exlusively availabe in Scratch? I am asking this, because my favourit posthouse has a Baselight system and I personally like SpeedGrade very much.

Implemented REDcode RAW in such systems seems to me one big advantage of the RED workflow. It will make REDcode Raw usuable for everyone, from Color to the HighEnd systems. It could become a standard like 35mm...

Hans

Edit: There is already a thread dealing with this issue, please feel free to close this thread

RED said in the beginning that they would make their codec available for ANY 3rd parties who are interested.
So if the colour correction software that you use is interested in working with REDCODE RAW, and they contact RED about it, I think there shouldn't be any problem. First there has to be interest from them, though...

Good news. Hopefully it stays like this... RED has acomplished a amazing lot of what they promised...

Thanks for the info,

Hans

Having 3hrd party support Red is 100% crucial.
They always said that they want to support any 3hrd party.

haven't Assimilate got an exclusive deal with REDCode RAW?
I have heard the same rumour about Apple and RED - and now there is scratch supporting it, so i sincerly hope that these are just rumours.

If there is any truth to this, that would be highly disruptive in the negative sense.

In can´t speak for all countries, but here in Berlin you will find clipsters, lustres, nucodas, mystikas, speedgrades (not to mention da vincis and poogles) all over the place, and they certainly won´t change their systems. If there is a scratch somewhere here i am not aware, fully possible, but i wouldn´t know of it. In fact, i know only 2 German scratch houses as of yet - there should be more.

If a production company selects shooting red, they will most certainly not switch postproduction in order to use a special system - but to have a certain artist or production partner.

Being unable to work with R3D files in the huge majority of all postproduction companies would be one of the very few showstoppers.

But i highly doubt that rumour. What would be in for RED? It would make no sense to barricade yourself out of the majority of postproduction pipelines? Any manufacturer wants and need support from 3hrd parties, especially if they have thousands of customers.

Also, RED always said that they want to support any 3hrd party working for and with RED. We know that they are preferring osx, and scratch doesn´t even run on osx. I think someone from red should comment before speculations begin.
