So I've had several requests to start a thread about my Grading System for After Effects, so here it is.

ColorGHear was developed over a period of years, where I had access to Davinci at work when working with 35mm film and RED workflows, but only After Effects on my home computer. So I began learning a variety of ways to use AE as a grading tool, building a ton of presets for each project, and over time I saw a pattern forming, I was using a LOT of the same settings over and over again, and while I couldn't actually add nodal functionality to AE, I could use layers as nodes, if I could only make presets that duplicated Resolve nodes....and so I did, and when people saw the results, and how quickly an easily they were achieved using my system, they wanted it. And so ColorGHear was born, and in January I began selling the toolkit and access to the tutorials that show you how to use it. It has been a favorite choice of DSLR shooters because of the way it fixes some of the deficiencies of highly compressed low data rate footage, and makes it possible to do complex grading on that footage. It was not a surprise that it would appeal to the DSLR crowd, as it was initially aimed at them.

The biggest surprise was the number of RED users that began checking out the system, using it to grade R3D sequences at 4k in 32bit color space using AE, and getting the same dramatic results as the DSLR set. And at their behest, I decided to begin contributing again the message boards.

In regards to Davinci Resolve - When I first began grading professionally, Davinci was prohibitively expensive, but now at $999, Davinci Resolve is now available to the the masses. Although, not everyone who already has spent money on the Adobe Suite wants to spend another grand on grading software...or a similar amount for a day in a grading suite in order to grade their 4K files.

So, if you are already a using the Adobe Creative Suite, you can use Premiere Pro to edit your R3D raw footage, you can easily import your project (without rendering) into AE, and grade using ColorGHear in a very similar way to an XML or AAF on Davinci.

I'm not here to sell you on CGT, but to answer any questions the rest of you might have about the system. And to provide a support thread for CGT RED users.

Here's a look at what CGT can do on DSLR footage.

Regards,
Shian

Here's a video outlining the system, with a tiny peek at what it can do, and how it works.

The video was made with Quicktime's screen cap function, and the built in mic, so the quality isn't where the actual site tutorials that I eventually made with Camtasia and a headset is, but you can see CGT in action.

Wow. Very interested in checking this out! Thanks for contributing to the Reduser community!

ColorGHear Pro now gives you the flexibility and power to do high-end DaVinci style grades even in Final Cut Pro 7 and Premiere Pro. And of course it supports the already incredible DaVinci Resolve giving you the flexibility to grade with the power of ColorGHear whether you are on your NLE at home in a professional setting at a high end post house.
