  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

ColorFixer: utility for fixing the "looping bug" in Color projects

I would guess after reconforming, you'd have to re-run the colorfixer app since when I tried using reconforming to fix the loop bug from the beginning, each xml file changed the way the loop bug works. So just run color fixer again and you should be good. I have run colorfixer after doing some CC and it doesn't affect anything.

Thanks Tim,

The problem is that it reconforms but all of the primary and secondary adjustments get wiped away. I don't imagine re-running the colorfixer will get the work back. What do you think?

Kaku

I must admit I'm not really familiar with Color.

I tried to reproduce the problem Kaku Ito reported and did the following
- put a few clips into a sequence in FCP
- send to Color
- run Colorfixer on the Color project
- change settings in "Primary Out" for 1 clip
- render
- send to Final Cut Pro
- checked "Sequence... (from Color)": primary color changes were applied correctly

It looks like I need more info .
Can I get a step-by-step description that reproduces the problem ?

Has anybody else tried reconforming from Color and found problems ?

Thanks,
Hans

I have now tried the following

- changed my edit in FCP
- exported sequence as XML
- perform "Reconform" in Color, using the XML

My edit changes were applied and the grading was still intact.
What else can I try to reproduce the problem ?

Cheers,
Hans

Hans,

Thank you for taking your time on this.

That is pretty much how the issue show up on my side.
The timeline is about 18 minutes long with about 6 video tracks. I might have to flatten the tracks less to make it work.

It's good to know it works basically.

Man, that's a lot of hustle. I can't imagine any colorist would wanna work that way.

We are finding it's mostly okay (other than I can't reconform) so I would just replace the problematic portions separately and replace them in FCP later. Jeez.

I'm in a middle of a work for a client, I'm using colorfixer to send to and back from color and everything is ok. No effects and only one video track as always, color can't stand more than this.

Luca,

I forgot about the effects. But I can't tell the director not to use the effects and the track to limit his creative freedom, so I let them do whatever, then deal with problematic portions. I dealt with it that way the last time, it was somewhat manageable.

So we should conclude that it is not the ColorFixer's problem but a general Color issue then.

This software is really great, but I'm still wondering one thing about the proxy workflow: is there any sort of loss in quality by using proxies in Color, as opposed to using .mov files ingested in the (native) RED codec? Or any other intermediate format for that matter? I noticed there is no official proxy workflow in the FCP whitepaper.

The native source wrapped in "native" clip and the original R3D which get connected via proxy in Color should be the same, so in terms of quality in Color should be the same.

There were some tests done very early on in the color plugin's life that proved that the proxy workflow accesses the R3D in exactly the same way as the Log and Transfer method outlined in the whitepaper. Colorfixer is the final stelp in getting the proxy workflow to work smoothly.

Simon,

Supporting 10.4 was one of the reasons I designed Colorfixer as a separate application.
Alas, it turned out that some functions I was using were not supported in 10.4.
Hold on for a few more days and I'll probably be able to make it work.

Cheers,
Hans

Colorfixer now runs on OS X 10.4

Colorfixer now runs on OS X 10.4

I have just posted a new version of Colorfixer on my website

http:// www.daun.ch/software

According to the Cocoa Development Environment, this version should run under OS X 10.4. I cannot verify this, because I no longer have 10.4 installed.
Let me know how it works under 10.4.

Cheers,
Hans

Tested, works! thanks!
You're my new hero! :)

Actually had some strange operating system probs (applications not starting anymore and not responding if trying to quit) after using it once, but probably it was because of some other app i was using at the same time ... will do some more testing about this!

thanks again
