I shot a film last year on the RED MX, and I saw the editor's cut, the color and everything looks great. But I asked for the original .r3d files so I could put the shots in my own reel.
When I got home and started playing around with the footage, I got really confused. I lit with HMIs, and balanced the camera to 4500k, to give the key a slightly colder look. The proxies look fine:
Proxie:
But when I open up the raw file in Red Alert, this is what it looks like:
Then after messing with the color temp and tint, I got it to look right:
What I don't understand, is that I had to bring the color temp to 3200k (to get it to look how its supposed to look at 4500k), and a 5600k source at 3200k film stock would look a lot bluer than this. Also, where is the strong green tint coming from?
