This the first time I've tried to finish a Red project to DVD. I've been using DVDSP for some time and have been happy with results from Sony EX1 but starting with a much higher quality image I expected more.

I've burned a couple of tests that leave me somewhat disappointed.

I graded in Color and exported using compressor - standard setting for best quality 90min. ( tried upping the bit rate but DVDSP rejected the that clip)

The contrast was very high, colour washed out and lacked detail.

I suspected that I might get better results by changing the color space from Redspace to Rec 709.

The result was much better colour depth but the saturation is amplified. Still lacks detail and colour depth when compared to commercial dvds.

Where to next?

What is the best colour space to use here?

Should I down the saturation in the grade?

Do I need to do some extra processing before going to Compressor?

Perhaps I just hit the limitation of DVDSP.

I'd very much appreciate any input or advice toward improving the quality.

Try setting colour space to CameraRGB and gamma to REC709. This gives a very neutral starting point. If you've used an ISO higher than 320, set ISO back to 320. Now start your grading.
