Playing with some MX footage in Color. I have Redcode v4 b2 plugin installed. Import some MX clips (redcode 42, 4K 2:1). In the primary room, if I boost highlights while looking at RGB parade, Color is limiting everything at around 98 IRE. Broadcast safe limiter in Setup/Project Settings is off.

Is it a function of the Redcode v4b2 plugin, or some other preference in Color that I'm not remembering?

Thanks,
Bryan

Random, fairly uneducated guess: could it be FLUT working to stop anything from clipping? It supposedly works behind the scenes in the new Color plugin, and that sounds like a place it might be doing some work.

It has alway been like this, seems to be a limitation in the way RED needs to plug into Color.

Very interesting. I hadn't noticed that before.

Would it not be beneficial to at least allow us to go to 100 IRE? Why clamp at around 98?

Would appreciate any insights on this from Red.

Thanks,
Bryan

Another problem is that the Secondary Room relates to RAW…

Not sure what you mean by "relates to RAW"...?

Is the processing linear, ie: R3D -> Red Tab -> RGB output to Primary -> Secondary -> etc

I think he is referring to the fact that the secondary room uses the RAW image to key from to generate qualifiers.

People talk about this as if it is a bug, whereas in my opinion it is a choice made by Apple and there are cases both for and against it being a good choice. I have not personally found it to be a major problem.

Well, it's inconsistent with other formats and it is causing problems. RAW from the RED is low in saturation and contrast and that's not very helpful for HSL qualifiers. We need to work around this in the VFX room quite frequently.
