I would like to know what is the best Color and Gamma space to be transcoding with for a HD workflow that includes FCP and grading with Color. Depending on the footage, REDSpace and REDGamma look the best while in Redcine, but I am wondering if I shouldn't be transcoding with REC 709 color space and gamma curves to leave myself more latitude when I go to color. What is the correct way to do this, and why so many options?

Speaking from only my own experience, I have found in using Color I like CameraRGB or REDSpace for my color setting and REC709 for my Gamma setting. If I don't plan on doing much pushing of the Grade, then I'd probably use REDSpace for my Gamma, but I find I have a lot more range with REC709. Hope that helps.

Yes that input helps thank you. I think the 709 gamma lifts the floor up some so you have more lattitude in the shaddows, but why Camera RGB or REDSpace for color space? If the working color space will be 709 then why not work with that? I know we are talking about individual preferences but it seem kind of odd that these options seem so arbitrary.

REC709 in your color space throws off the colors quite a bit, almost as if the saturation is cranked up far too much. To get a good look, open REDCine and load a clip and there you can see the difference pretty clearly when you adjust the color and gamma settings.
