  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Collister Dragon Test for ASC

AMAZED - Skin tones, Dynamic Range, lowlight, WOW.

The dragon sensor and REDs digital cinema technology keeps pushing the industry forward and into uncharted territory. Obviously we will always want more of something in a camera because thats what keeps the industry moving forward... but damn this sensor sees some amazing stuff and I would be happy with it for the next 50 years. Then again I said that about the MX sensor! hahaha

wait a minute! Peter Collister doesn't look like Michael Jackson!

another balloon burst.

Thanks for posting this great footage. The rolloff is super smooth, creamy, and beautiful. The shot directly into the sun tells quite a tale...though the sun itself is blown, there's a ton of detail in those leaves....

Peter, can you please elaborate further on the first few shots skintone test, how do you grade it. Is it a light grade, full grade. That looks really good. Would appreciate it if you can explain the process.

Thank you
Rivai

OK I don't want to do crazy long posts about all of it. But I will post some notes here.

Yes I was using Jarred's new XL battery mount. It is great. When he showed it to me a month ago I was not excited but I will tell you I got an hour of use out of each battery.

I have notes on every shot and what lens and T stop was used.

Hi,
Just great.....But sometimes I feel that too much of DR may make the image look a little artificial.....

Thanks Peter! Nice reminder too of how good stills lenses can be (in the hands of a maestro, obviously). WOW!

I think the shot that sells it for me is the elderly gentleman standing next to the French doors. It comes out so natural, as if I was standing there.

Game over.

Haha. I have admit, this test IS impressive, isn't it?

Wow. And we haven't even seen the new color science yet.

I know, that's the scariest part. The new color science isn't even in, and this isn't even the final IR filter, right? This is still an unfinished BETA camera.

I think it's pretty evident RED has put an IMMENSE amount of time into DRAGON. All that tinkering they did before and after NAB is clearly paying off.

BRAVO.

Great images from a great cinematographer, by far the nicest footage to date.

STUNNING!

I have never seen images like that from any camera.
Dynamic range is a dream.
Colors and natural detail are coming together as a thing of beauty.
RED: Thanks for dreaming inventing and developing!
PETER: Thanks for shooting and sharing with us all.

Cheers!
