Collectors Sale: Red 0008 and "London"

Hi Steve-

Wow, is all I can say... and reiterate that I bought a Mantis from Steve and he is a CLASS ACT... you will also be gaining a good guy and a great shooter with this purchase.

Were any of these under the Arctic ice in that gorgeous Salmon Shark show I saw on Discovery?

Thanks Gunleik!

As far as London being different, that would be a technical question for Red to answer. Its my understanding that the 25 city-named pre-production cameras were made in early to mid-2007 to be the final field production testing cameras before the eventual 8/30/07

I believe London along with a few of the other 25 city names have a different finish. more matte..If I can recall correctly.

Its nothing bad. it all works the same, no added weight.. its just the original finish.

could be wrong.. those might have been a few of the first cameras not 25..

Thanks for those really kind words Tim. Hope things are well for you in Portland. Sometime when I get up your way I need to stop in a check out your studio!

Yes, all three of my Red cameras were used at some point for the "Icy Killers" (National Geographic) show we did in Alaska - some shots were on land with various 35mm stills lenses lens, some were in various dive housings, and some were via polecam in the custom splash zone aluminum housing I had made By SPL.

The CineFlex footage in helicopter and from boats was shot using a Sony HDC1500 with 4:4:4 firmware, using Fujinon B4 zooms.

Red One is a versatile camera! I've shot with mine many times in all types of climate and topography - seashore, desert, and mountains. Importantly, I learned early on how to best protect the equipment in the field, and also how to keep it immaculately clean.

True...I believe some of the early city named cameras did have a matte finish. But London is one of the ones which has the same finish as the shipping Red One cameras.

Thanks Ketch! Yes, that Sirens of TI production in Las Vegas was way fun. I'll look forward to hooking up with you sometime soon here in California. BTW - Pamala sends her hugs

Is there any particular difference between both units?

Is there any particular difference between both units?

Historically speaking, yes, as I noted in my thread opening post, with links to reference material.

Visually and operationally I've noticed no difference between the two. Again, as far as London being different inside, my guess would be no, but that would be a technical question for Red to answer.

Its my understanding that the 25 city-named pre-production cameras were made in early to mid-2007 to be the final field production testing cameras before the eventual 8/30/07 release of the first serial number cameras (SN 0006 through 0024).

Since I use my cameras for actual production, when the upgrades were offered by Red, I had each of my Red cameras upgraded (PL mount, audio board, CF module, joystick, etc). That said, I had neither of them upgraded to the M-X sensor.

Steve,

I know that selling both of these unique camera bodies could mean a great deal of money for you and your family. However, if I were you, I would at least keep "London".

Some things are truly priceless.

Regardless, all the best to you.

Peter

Hey Steve, best of luck! Maybe Jim will shower you with the ideal purchase price.

So can we actually sell our Reds without losing place in line? I thought Jim made it clear that you had to be in complete possession of your Red at the time of Epic/Tattoo purchase or you lose your birthright forever, but maybe I totally misread that. I hope to keep my Red (I loves her so), but like yourself i'm not a camera collector and have to get to Epic somehow. I hope you get enough from this to buy everything you need!

Looking forward to seeing you at NAB my friend, i'll have my better half with me this time!

We're all subject to the same rules and restrictions when it comes to Red. Maybe it hasn't been clear in my posts on this thread, but my plan is to sell my Reds sequentially. I'll close a sale on London first (can be at any time), then do the sale of 0008 sometime after getting my first Epic.

Looking forward to seeing you and your wife at NAB and the Red user Party!

I hear ya Peter. These types of decisions are really tough for sure. In a perfect world I'd just keep both of these cameras in a historical archive and then simply buy the Epic and Scarlet cameras I need. That's definitely an option. The downside is that I don't have the facilities to start a mini-museum and simply keep them as long-term investments. But that's an option I've thought through many times.

The practical and pragmatic side of me keeps telling me I need to maximize the actual utility of my assets, including my camera systems. That involves actively using any camera systems I own. The fact is that the small form factor, higher frame rates, and DSMC capabilities of Epic and Scarlet should dovetail perfectly with the mobile hybrid and non-hardlined EFP genres that me and my crews work in.

Again I have the option to keep both 0008 and London as investments - however since my revenue generating expertise has been in producing and directing television series, my instincts are telling me to concentrate my resources where I've been successful - in the actual production of programs and films, rather than in archiving my equipment as investments.

Its a tough decision that every Red One adopter needs to act on according to their own individual needs and goals - when, where, and how to upgrade their kits to Epic and Scarlet - and what their options are with their Red One cameras when they do.

The above said, with exceptions, most collectors of camera equipment have different needs and agendas than those of us who produce and shoot for a living - thus my concept of selling my very collectable cameras to seasoned camera collectors.

An awesome opportunity for someone.

Good luck with your sale!

Thanks Matt! Yes, these cameras are an excellent opportunity for a camera collector. I'll close a sale on London at any time, but a 0008 sale will close after I receive my first Epic. I'll be using my 0008 delivery date (August 31, 2007) to maintain my place in line for Epic.

My PM box is always near full, so interested parties can contact me at my email address, which is steve at cut4.tv

Steve,

Wow, Historic!!!

Out of the field for a moment!

Number eight or 8 is the icon for infinity and to some it is also the symbol for the strength of YING -YANG.

You have both qualities and now you pass it on to the next power!

Miss you buddy lot's to Ketchup, mustard and most of all relish!

PEACE,

Kennan

Roberto,

I don't want to take away from Steve's Historic page. Please forgive me, Steve!

Briefly, It is a Mother Grizzly looking over the back of her cub.

Karen and I were below on a hill. We like this as it represents how we feel about truly wild animals, we look up to them!

Keeping the Wild in WILDLIFE.

I understand, sorry. I remember you and Steve have spent lots of time in the wild together if I recall correctly, but I shouldn't derail.

Hope enough people are aware of this thread Steve. Hope the big ones are already biting.
