Extremely rare opportunity for camera collectors

I’m now accepting offers for the two early historical RED One cameras that I own:
Serial Number 0008 (the third Red One serial number sold to the public)
“London” (the 6th camera made of 25 rare city-named pre-production Red One cameras)

For info on the sequence in Red camera history of my cameras, please visit this post by my friend Jim Jannard: http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=41519

For Jim Jannard’s opinion of the collectable value of the early serial number Red One cameras, prototypes, and city-named prototypes, please visit this post:

Red 0008
For some information on the unique history and provenance of my Red 0008 camera, please visit my summary in my Post 71 on this page:

There are only two shipping serial numbers lower than this – 0006 and 0007, both owned by my friend Mark Pederson. Mark has recently stated that he will not be selling those cameras, so my 0008 is most likely the lowest serial number Red One camera which will ever be offered for re-sale. Though I received this camera on August 30, 2007, and it has been personally used by me worldwide on a broad array of high-profile productions, it is in near-perfect condition. It has never been rented out, and I take meticulous care of my camera systems.

“London”
I purchased my “London” city-named pre-production camera directly from Jim Jannard in mid- October 2007. I believe almost all the other city-named prototypes and pre-production cameras belong to Jim, and certainly no other have been offered for sale to the public as I am doing with this camera. Despite being used on a colorful list of high-profile productions around the world, “London” is in near-perfect condition, and has never been rented out. “London” has been used by me on an eclectic variety of high-profile productions since October 2007 – list available upon request.

About the owner
I’ve personally made some significant historical contributions to the early formative period of Red and the Red One camera. I’m under NDA to Red, but my Post #46 on this link provides an overview of those contributions which I’m free to discuss: http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=41519&page=5

I believe these contributions of mine also add significant provenance value to Red 0008 and “London”. You can also find additional info on me and my biography via the links in my signature below.

I have loved owning and using these historic Red cameras! However I’m not a camera collector, but rather a producer, director, DP, and cinematographer of television programs which air or have aired on about 15 different international and national broadcast and cable networks. It’s with regret that I’m selling these cameras, but the new Epic and Scarlet cameras, with their smaller form factor and higher frame rates, will better suit the very mobile hybrid and non-hardlined EFP production genres I work in, and the type of still photography work I do. I’ll be one of the very first to receive an Epic X camera. I’ll also be at the head of the line to receive others of the Scarlet and Epic camera models when they're ready to ship. Thus, I’ve made this difficult decision to sell my Red One cameras at this time.

This is a great opportunity for a collector, or collectors (I will sell the cameras separately) to make a solid investment in two extremely rare, historical Red One cameras. Please, serious inquiries only. Your anonymity guaranteed when we discuss possibilities via email, throughout the sale process, and into perpetuity if desired. Please contact me at my email address, which is: steve at cut4.tv

I will pay a 6% of the gross sale amount referral fee for any referral made which results in a closed sale of either or both of the cameras. Optimal situation will be for me to sell London first, then do a sale on Red 0008 after I've received my first Epic X camera - essentially a delayed sale and delivery of Red 0008.

You’ll notice I haven’t placed a sale price on the cameras. They’re very unique and collectible – and there have been no comparable sales to point to as benchmarks.

I’ll be happy to answer general questions here. If you post questions, please obey the posted forum rules regarding constructive questions and input – please no baiting, trolling, sarcasm, etc.

I have attached two photos of Red 0008 and “London” together. These photos are very current – I shot them today (3/15/10).

HOLY SH!t!

wow steve...
good luck.
are you selling only the body?
cheers,

Mr. Jannard offered Mark $200k each for Elvis #6 and Bond #7 btw. I don't think it's possible at this point to buy the "place in line" for #7 and #8 but perhaps an exception would be made.

Must have been a really hard decision for you Steve.

Thanks! As you'd expect, I have a broad array of Red and ET accessories for my Red One cameras. I haven't yet decided which of those accessories I'll be keeping to use with my Epic and Scarlet cameras. My initial field testing with Epic X will help me decide what to keep. It's these historic Red One camera bodies which are of core interest to collectors, but at some point in the near future when I decide which of my accessories I'll be keeping, I'll sell off those remaining accessories. Like my cameras, my accessories are in great condition.

Must have been a really hard decision for you Steve.

With my early history and friendship with Jim Jannard, my very early adoption of Red One, my deep respect for Red Team, and the phenomenal love I've had for these cameras, yes this was one of the hardest decisions I've had to make in a 30+ year career. But then again, I'm just made the decision I needed to make - I'm not a collector, but rather an active production worker, and I need to actually use my cameras, not archive them. For the genres I service I expect Epic and Scarlet to be just what I need. For others who work in other genres, Red One may be very well be their camera of choice for a long time to come.

Finally, I want these cameras to go to a very good home...

I look forward to see how much hey fetch (if you agree to disclose, hope you do).

I used to think you only had one, then I realized London was pre-production.

Crazy, but a triple win.

Disclosing the sale price will be determined by whether the buyer or buyers restrict the release of that information. Quite often collectors request anonymity and non-disclosure clauses. We'll see. If I'm not restricted by the buyers from disclosing the price, it is possible I may post what the results were. Either way, I expect these cameras to sell quickly...

I used to have three Red One cameras, but now I'm down to two.

Next up for my Red camera kits: an Epic X, multiple fixed lens Scarlet, a FF35 Scarlet, and a FF35 Epic. I expect that all of them them will be very early serial numbers.

How does selling your Red effect your standing in line for Epic?

Hey Richard. It was good seeing you at the January 16 Red Day at Red Studios Hollywood.

I'm basically subject to the same restrictions and rules as everyone else when it comes to Red cameras. That said, I'm sure Red has appreciated my very early adoption of Red one, and as you know Red is a company that has a very good memory of those who took that early "leap of faith".

For those who are not frequenting this board, there is no one safer to buy from than Steve. A real gentleman.

Thank you for that very kind recommendation Martin. Very much appreciated...

Gibby,

wish you the best with those sales.

Also RED should open a museum in RED Hollywood Studios, collect all early RED cameras as a historically important technology peaces,

get funded privately and publicly, then loan some of those peaces (early RED1s and other important RED1s) to other museums,

private and public collectors, auctions and similar institutions.

I have absolutely no insider info on a probable shipping date for any of the new Red cameras. That said, my gut instincts are telling me we're not real far off from the start of deliveries though. Exactly when that will be is anyone's guess. I wouldn't be surprised to see some cameras ship sometime in the month of April, but that's a pure guess. We'll see...

Thanks Sanjin...

These early Red One cameras are already very collectable items. Looking forward, I expect the collectors market for them to grow rapidly. I like your idea of some sort of museum at Red Studios Hollywood.

In a perfect world I would have kept every camera I've ever owned over these many years I've been in this industry. But collecting is another whole industry, and my emphasis has always been on the production of television programs and films.

Sorry, do not understand. Aren't these units 100% the same?

No, the cameras have improved over time. The very first cameras had a different mount, different audio boards. Most owners chose to upgrade - but Jim has RED #0001 unpacked hidden in the dungeon.

And just as with art, the value of a camera changes with its particular history. E.g. RED#0031 is worth more than say RED#0030, simply because it has most likely shot the most footage.

Gibby,

RDC definitely has to collect some of those early cameras and open a kind of museum space/rooms in RED Hollywood Studios for mainly educational purposes.

4K education!

I think RDC and a lot of industry professionals, students, many ordinary visitors, tourists, etc... would benefit from this "new institution".
