I am in trouble about two problems.
The one is a codec error.
It is generated at any time regardless of the state of the camera(ex.4Kor2K
23.98fps or 29.97fps MAX checked ON or OFF make proxy ONorOFF).
For instance, when it records for five minutes or more and the error is caused and it stops, it is recorded in RED DRIVE only for only 1 or 2 minutes.
It is necessary to reboot to record when CODEC_ERROR in some very extreme cases.

The other is 48v phantom power ploblem.
48v phantom power can't stay on(build 18 3.6.4) when CAMERA POWER cycled.
But it is displayed on my LCD. (My CAMERA arrived DEC.25)

I sent Stuart(RED TEAM) my Log file Last week.
But I am not getting the answer.
HELP ME PLEASE!!

Thanks

I think phantom power is supposed to turn off after you power cycle. it says so in the manual of build 17.3.4.1 - if I remember correctly.

Codec Error - have you tried recording to a different disc or CF card?

Hi Sidney

Thank you for the reply.
I think Phantom Power has stayed on when power cycle (build 18 3.6.4)
BUT My CAMERA can't.

I tried some RED DRIVE and DRIVE CABLE and RED CF card.

Thanks

I'm still on build 17 and my phantom power always and always has shut down after a power cycle. It's kind of a pain, but it's better than frying a mic if someone plugs in without knowing the camera's setup, I suppose.

On a shoot a couple of weeks ago I was getting a strange codec error due to audio (don't know if this is what you're experiencing) and I had to reformat the drive to get it to work properly again. I haven't experienced the issue since.

Let's be clear here.

The OP is on Build 18, which modifies that behaviour so that phantom stays on over reboots.

BUT!

You must have the new audio board for it to work.

So - Rev.inc. - have you got the new audio board in that camera?

Regarding the codec error, have you tried other media?

My camera reached at December 25 and the serial number of the camera is 5414.
I think it is new audio board in my camera.
Please teach me how I can check if it is not .

I have two RED DRIVE and two DRIVE CABLE,one 16GB CF CARD(RED).
I tried both DRIVE and DRIVE CABLE and CF various combinations
But CODEC_ERROR happened.
Is this hardware problem?

Yesterday I found similair problems with phantom power.

We where recording at RC28 4K 2:1 and the latest buid (build 18 3.6.4) and a Rode NTG 3 mic.
When power cycle the camera the audio recording bar stays at the lowest point.
I don't know if this means the phantom power is off or there is a problem with audio record levels.
After turning off the audio record options on and off a few times and changing to another input number and 1 or 2 powercycles it suddenly worked again.

Just to help Rev Inc (hi Takashi!), I've seen his camera first hand and tried both build 17 v3.4.1 and build 18 v3.6.4 and the CODEC ERROR fault is on both. We tried it with all sorts of combinations of drive, cables, audio channels on and off. I suspect this is a hardware fault but only Red can say for sure. The camera definitely has Rev.B audio board installed.

Takashi, for the Phantom power bug in build 18, it appears that the power cycle of the camera causes the 48V indicator to stay on now, BUT the hardware seems to lose true 48V power regardless of the indication. The fix is to do as we did in build 17 - that is, turn 48V off then on again in the menus and it will work as normal again. All our cameras exhibit the same bug. No doubt it will be fixed in the next version.

Cail,

As I stated, I'm on build 17 and it's implied that I don't have experience with build 18. I was expressing my experience with build 17 in case there was some similarity with 18. I didn't know 18 had changed the phantom function. But thank you for slapping me down... spread the cheer.
