  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

CML Camera Evaluation 2015

Words like elastic come to mind. How elastic is the image in both altering/moving the DR and the color.

Elastic.
Gradability.
Raw vs. baked in elements.

The way something looks in the monitor on set and the finished film in a grading environment is different. I think, rightly, people are moving away from video villages with the RAW workflows and gone girl might be a good example of this.

I think many systems are very capable of creating solid images. My questions are more like, how far can I stray from that image, what is recoverable to my taste and how far can I push, pull, stretch, manipulate before complete breakdown. I think film set the standard with this and the first video devices were where the WYSIWYG problem starts. With RAW workflows, we are moving toward film again as these workflows give us things we like and what many people still want out of a recorded image, flexibility.

It's kinda the whole reason magic lantern exists for DSLR's because out of the box images are only so good for a while and then they just break down.

It comes down to how flexible the recorded data is, more that how it looks out of the box, but DR, Color science are important considerations after flexibility.
