  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Clipfinder workflow for "wrapped R3D"

Hi Antoine,

Clipfinder doesn't render TO Cineform as I explained above, but you can use it as regular QT, so use it to edit, then you can also conform to R3D using Clipfinder. But the major point of using Cineform is that you probably don't have to go back to R3D. It could be transcoded to 12-bit RAW Cineform with significantly small transferring rate, so you can use that to edit and composite, then finally convert to DPX or 10-bit RGB to grade in Color or other color grading environment.

The gamma wise, Cineform works in active metadata, I think it carry's full data, then you can apply any gamma as you edit but not applied (burned) to the data.

I'm kinda of giving up on Blackmagic's 10-bit RGB which I haven't figured out the correct way to keep the gamma level (10-bit 4:2:2 works very well) but I know what you're talking about on AJA 10-bit, it goes significantly darker, but I'm thinking there must be a correct way to setup the AJA control panel.

Hi Kaku,

I can't understand why AJA is not able to give me a response about all this gamma problem...

Thanks for the info!

Antoine

Antoine, Kaku,

I am certain that the list of supported codecs in REDline, REDAlert, REDrushes and Clipfinder is fixed and does not change depending on which codecs you have installed.
If you select a codec that is not installed, then the output will be unusable.
There is, unfortunately, no magic that automatically adds codecs to the list (or removes them if they are not installed).

Antoine: You may want to try the "Contrast Adjustment" setting in Clipfinder to get the AJA codec gamma closer to what you want. Not a perfect fix, but it might help.

Cheers,
Hans

Hi Hans!

...the contrast...Good idea !

I'll try it tomorrow.

Thanks

Antoine

Hans,
finally got the time to play with your app, I regret I didn't take the time to look at it before.
Thank you very much for all that generous hard work.
Got an error message when I try to open a media in RA.
AttachAScript Error
Error -25211 occured the OpenInREDAlert(/Users/breizoneg/Desktop/A012_C099_0323EA.RDC/A012_C099_0323EA_001.R3D) call: L’accès pour les périphériques d’aide est désactivé (access to the help peripherial desactivate).
Did somebody got that type of error message?
Anyway the RD3 open in RA, I wanted to understand what that message mean?
Could it be a conflict with Red portal "Anders App" http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=6026
Cheers
Brice

Hm, okay, I do see the AJA 10bit RGB and Blackmagic 10bit RGB in my Clipfinder for sure. Maybe they don't show up unless you install the codec and they might not be automatic to show up but then prepared to show up (maybe that is why Cineform doesn't show up in Clipfidner).

Hi Hans
i started a project using the proxies with M at the end now i want to switch to clipfinder workflow , i exported my original clips from quick render to prores now i need to replace the old proxies with the new one but i couldn't my FCP project is offline, please Help

Many thanks

Mazenhashem,

I must admit that I do not understand exactly what your problem is.
I'd be happy to help, though.
Can you mail me at the address given in the Clipfinder Help Pages (CMD-?) and explain your problem in as much detail as possible ?

Cheers,
Hans

Hi there Hans,

First of all I want to join everyone else in thanking you for creating this awesome app.

There is one issue, though. I've not been able to find an answer to this on RedUser or your help pages, and that is the gamma shift from RedAlert to Clipfinder to FCP. I apologize if this has been discussed at great length.

When I do a first-light in RedAlert the "Look" isn't consistent between all three apps. What am I doing wrong? I'm sure there is some simple explanation and I'm just missing it!

Thanks again for creating this great application.

Jan,

With Clipfinder 2.2, the look in Clipfinder's Loupe Window (via RED's SDK) should be the same as in REDAlert. The display in the main window is not accurate (but plays back more smoothly). Upon request from an experienced professional I have also added a "contrast adjustment" setting to the render window. This should help you mitigate the gamma differences between Clipfinder/REDAlert and FCP. A value of +0.3 is supposed to do the trick.

Cheers,
Hans

Quick question, does clipfinder allow you to zoom (resize) a 4k image and then export 2k without any resolution loss?

thanks,
Rich

Hans, when do you think you can adopt the build 20's new color science in the Clipfinder?

Kaku,

Since Clipfinder uses REDline for rendering, all transcoding will be via the new color science as soon as you install the new REDAlert package.
Note that once you have switched to RA 20 you need to edit your look settings in REDAlert in order to accurately judge what the output will look like.
Display in Clipfinder will be updated as soon as the new SDK becomes available.

Cheers,
Hans

I noticed that it is working as you mentioned. Some reported look change as you mentioned, I'd like to see one click white balance feature in Clipfinder in the future. Thanks Hans.

ah, I see the rendering result looks different from your Loupe window. Looking forward and good luck to the new build.

Would be nice, I think that is not an easy task... Perhaps Graeme could support that.
