To help alleviate the understandable confusion, here's a few words on the current status of Clipfinder in relation to MX / build 30 and the new versions of REDline:

- material shot with MX / build 30 requires FLUT color science for (proper) rendering (you can render with old color science, but it looks bad)

- Clipfinder uses REDline for rendering

- versions of REDline up to and including version 21.x do not support FLUT color science (nor Rocket-acceleration)

- the new versions of REDline (since April 14th 2010, the latest being build 257) do support FLUT color science and Rocket-acceleration

- the new versions of REDline require major changes in Clipfinder

- initial builds of the new REDline had serious issues, some smaller issues still exist

- the official releases of Clipfinder are not compatible with the new REDline, i.e. should be used with REDline 21.x, which is available as part of the REDAlert package on RED's site)

- the recommended way to render MX / build 30 material at this point is to render via REDCINE-X (Clipfinder 2.5 has a "send to REDCINE-X" feature).

- If you have bought a Clipfinder 2.5 license and absolutely have to render MX / build 30 material from Clipfinder, mail me, and I'll send you a test version, that works with the new REDline (with limitations).

- Given the effort involved I don't expect to upgrade Clipfinder 2.2 (the free version) to work with the new REDline.

I hope this clarifies the situation.

If you need more info regarding Clipfinder in relation to MX / build 30 etc., please post to this thread.

Please do not use this thread for specific questions regarding the use of Clipfinder in your project. You can mail me directly and I'll do my best to help.

Cheers,
Hans

Make QuickTime for pre build30 footage with the new REDLINE doesn't seem to work. If that is correct.

What would be the combination of REDLINE, ROKCETcine-X to work with Clipfinder 2.5b3 well and also to be able to get the correct FLUT color science color rendering?

I did little bit of thinking...

Where does the REDLINE build 21 get installed? Would it be possible to make a pulldown menu to choose between the latest REDLINE and BUILD21 (instead of directing the REDLINE file location)? That would save us the reinstalling the redline every time we want to switch them. If that choice would reflect the choices of REDLINE in the whole system, that would be great. But of course we have to be aware of maintaining the color differences though.

I don't know if this is associated with REDLINE but the problem I've had with Clipfinder 2.5 and MX footage is not being able to see a preview when you toggle the view style to icon view.

Another thing I always use Clipfinder for is exporting a shot index using the Project Documentation and with MX footage the thumbnails don't come up properly. I assume this is a REDline issue. If the test build you have fixes those issues I'd be very happy to give it a try, I'm happy to render out through REDCineX (although I do look forward to being able to do it through Clipfinder/REDline).

Bear with me for a few days.
I've been working on something along the lines Kaku suggested above for a while, but it is difficult to reconcile the differences between the old and the new REDline.

Cheers,
Hans

The latest version of REDCINE-X should render as displayed in Clipfinder's loupe when the color science preference is set to FLUT (or reasonably close; there may still be a gamma issue).

This is a non MX thingy, as I won't start using MX untill august, but it is a B30 thingy, if you have the Rocket.

Pre-grade in Clipfinder (FLUT)

Close CF

Open folder in RocketCineX (used 1740).
Render, opennew batches in RocketCineX as they are ready.

Gamma issues are there, but if you set up your display to compensate for your codec of choice you are fine.... ish... -:)

Worls very fluently and without hickups for months now.

Hans, thank you very much for your dedication and your ultra-openminded action to even spend your time for my idea as always.
