Hello, I am figuring out a proper workflow for conforming to both Full Res 4k ProRes being scaled down to HD for Color as well as being able to Color Correct the orginal .R3D files, without using Log and Transfer. We have timelines what are mixtures of 4k,3k,2k and HD. All shot on .R3D. We need to do pan and scan on the 4K and 3K, and we will be mastering on either 2k or HD.

I have tested .R3D in Color and I like the power of being able to use the Pan&Scan features to be able to crop 4K files to 2k or HD. This is not an option from ProRes or Uncompressed media, but its a conforming option I need to have.

--Log and Transfer versus RedRushes--
First off I found the FCP Log and Transfer is a horrible workflow. When we would make offline ProRes Quicktimes with Log and Transfer it would crash, if it didn't crash now, it would crash later. We are editing about 100 hours of .R3D footage, so there is no way we were able to finish in Log and Transfer. Also after Log and Transfer crashing numerous times it would just stop seeing .R3D files. The only way to fix this was to re-install everything. So we moved to RedRushes right off the bat. Until Apple make the Log and Transfer more stable we can't use Log and Transfer for any .R3D workflow. We have the latest and greatest and newest updates on all our stations..

Moving to RedRushes then makes the official "RED FINAL CUT STUDIO 2 WHITEPAPER" off the RED website DEAD, because it uses Log and Transfer for conforming. Anway, Log and Transfer blows, so we are moving on only using RedRushes.

---CLIPFINDER and XML from FCP---
I have FCP XML using Proxies from RedRushes, but I can't seem to be able to conform back to the .R3D in COLOR.

If import clips from FCP XML it shows the clips as .mov and then if will find the .R3D files, but if do a conform on FCP XML to find the _H proxies or the .R3D files it can never find them.

It always looks for the _H proxies in a sub-dir using the name of the .mov from Redrushes.

So if the proxie is /A00_01.mov
it looks for the .R3D or Proxie here /A00_01.mov/_h or .R3d.

So it just defaults the .mov files in the XML back to the original edit proxie quicktimes.

---MONKEY and XML from FCP---
We have our XML's from FCP using proxies from RedRushes and can conform to the .R3D using Monkey. Everything it does works great if you just want to either make DPX or higher res quicktime from .R3D files then re-import that to FCP, or send that DPX timelies to color from FCP.

Only problem with Monkey, is that I can't figure out a way to make MONKEY link back to the original .R3D files or _H proxie so I can export that to Color.

Anyway, I want to be able to have COLOR see my .R3D files so I can work with 12bit in Color as well as being able to do Pan and Scan in Color ETC. The official "RED FINAL CUT STUDIO 2 WHITEPAPER" is out, but I do have Clipfinder and I do have Monkey Extract.

If anyone knows how to export XML from FCP using RedRushes proxies and open that in COLOR and have it link to .R3D, I would great appreciate it. I am really close to figure it out myself, but just wonder if anyone else had similar problems.

Thanks!!

I got it to work. The newest version of Clipfinder works perfect. I am using the "2.2 beta 6," "2.1.16" doesn't work for at all for me.
