I have decided to release a first public beta version of Clipfinder 2.2.
As some of you may know, this has been in development for quite a while.
Development has been delayed by a severe case of feature creep until just the prospect of having to write the documentation made me cringe.
Time to get this off my chest...

You can download the beta from my server http://www.daun.ch/software

Make sure you read the "What's new in Clipfinder 2.2" section in the integrated Help Pages (CMD-?).
There's so many new features that you will miss most of them unless you read this, and it is only one page.

Remember that this is a beta version.
Proceed with caution and make frequent backups !

My sincere thanks go out to all users who have provided feedback, suggestions and encouragement (and donations).
To those who have suggested features that are not implemented yet: I have not forgotten you, it's just been too much in one go.

If you like the new features, thank my tireless and patient alpha testers.
All the good things were their ideas, the errors are all mine.
You guys rock !

Enjoy,
Hans

P.S. It has frequently been suggested that I make Clipfinder a for-pay application.
Eventually, I may have to do this (you do want me to support REDRocket, Scarlet and Epic, don't you ?).
But now is not the time.
Clipfinder 2.2 is free.

Hi Hans,
I'm very proud to be one of your alpha testers. Your software is amazing and it's just an essential tool in the red workflow.
Thanks again!!

Yes, I just want to second what Luca says. It is an essential part of my workflow - the first place all my red footage ends up after shooting.

Congratulation Hans!

This is an awesome app Hans! A full on replacement for Red Alert at this point. The lift -stamp idea is terrific.

I'd agree the loupe should be what the main viewing window is now. Let us toggle between the current RSX look and the camera settings.

The biggest thing I'd like to see is separate RGB curves or RGB Levels... or lift, gamma, gain color wheels. If the RED SDK doesn't support separate RGB access then... well that's a bunch of crap IMHO.

Great work Hans! Thanks. :-)

Love the additions! Great Job! I just noticed in playing with it that the mark-in and mark-out doesn't quite work. I think Marking in is only marking the out.

A full on replacement for Red Alert at this point.

Eh? I LOVE Clipfinder, but I still have to do my color correction in Red Alert, so I'm not sure how this replaces that, unless I'm missing something. I see a "contrast" setting, but no other image features. Am I missing something?

That said...great update, Hans. I'm going to test the in-out in a while...

Kevin

Ah, thanks for that. I guess I WAS missing something...and yes, I don't think I need RA afterall. :-)

Thanks for pointing this out. Missed it completely.

Hans, great job with this. I've only done a couple tests, but it seems to be working great for me rendering using ins/outs. The only thing I'm missing from RED Alert is a white balance feature. Any chance that is coming?

You have made an awesome product. We're very appreciative of what you've done.

This is a great application. I am thankful for all the features you have added. It is a pleasure to assist in any way possible. For the people using this for color correction I have a simple work around for no video out. I just drag the loupe window to my broadcast monitor and that seems to work well. Also the render farm aspect is a god send. With 3 octicores I can render 60fps offline and 12 at full res. Depending on how fast I need the clips or if I am using the quicktimes for final edit determines which setting I use. Another workaround I found is I can render to offline and get my editors editing immediately, then render the online overnight and by the next day they can use the online files and we are all set. Which way to use this depends on your own needs, but I am thankful you have given us so many options and basically made the challenge of rendering footage become a very easy task.

Mahalo Nui (big thank you)
Scott

I wrote this in my article in Japanese magazine column that the new Clipfinder's edit window displayed on the Matrox MXO's presentation mode (second desktop) via Sony BVM-D24 works really well. The new Clipfinder's edit features works faster than RED Aleart's, so I don't have to use RED Aleart any more. Great work Hans.

Lift & Stamp

Lift & Stamp

Just wanted to say: Lift & Stamp.. just what I've been waiting for. I need Redcine less as Clipfinder gets better. Amazing!
